Gunners get third after slim conquer 10-man Fulham - Irish Independent

20 April 2013 System moved backup to next in the Barclays Premier League table while they edged past Fulham at Craven Cottage with both parties completing with 10 men. Fulham may count themselves regrettable never to have taken at least a place having battled gamely after the early sending off of midfielder Steve Sidwell - just back from a three-match suspension - for a late moving handle on Mikel Arteta. Strategy, however, failed to make the most of the man benefit after going ahead just before half-time via a close-range header from Per Mertesacker. Umpire Andre Marriner then brandished the red card again on 90 minutes when he sent off Olivier Giroud for leaping right into a challenge on Stanislav Manolev, although replays showed the France striker did get yourself a foot on the ball first. Arsenal, though, shut out stoppage-time as Fulham were urged on by the house service to go ahead of Chelsea, who perform at Liverpool tomorrow, and now five clear of Tottenham, their rivals having two suits in hand ahead of the Sunday expertise with Manchester City at White Hart Lane. System employer Arsene Wenger had made a decision to sleep England midfielder Jack Wilshere, with Czech playmaker Tomas Rosicky coming into along side it, as did Nacho Monreal, who'd been on the counter for the midweek goalless bring against Everton, while Wojciech Szczesny continued in target as Lukasz Fabianski was still injured. Fulham, well beaten 3-0 here by west London rivals Chelsea in midweek, began brightly, and Arteta had to cut fully out a dangerous combination from Urby Emanuelson At the other end, Giroud enjoyed in Theo Walcott, who completed effectively past Mark Schwarzer, but the offside flag had been up. Fulham were reduced to 10 men on 13 minutes when Sidwell went in late on Arteta, getting the Arsenal midfielder on his foot which resulted in referee Marriner going straight for a red card. Former Arsenal student Sidwell had just came back from a three-match suspension for an identical late concern on QPR's Armand Traore, and can now see his suspension improved for bad control. Your home fans roared their group on against the chances, and Dimitar Berbatov required a great end from Szczesny after deteriorating the right and into the Arsenal penalty area. Gradually, the readers built up a cause of pressure. Giroud was sad on 35 minutes when he spun his marker on the edge of the Fulham field before driving a shot across the face of purpose, which beat Schwarzer, but hit the outside of his left-hand post. Szczesny, nevertheless, was called into action again when Emanuelson robbed Monreal and drilled in a low chance, which the Pole got down well to push behind. Strategy were ahead three minutes before the break. Eyong Enoh fouled Aaron Ramsey conceding a some 35 yards on the right. Walcott sailed the ball into the field, and It was headed by laurent Koscielny straight back over the face of goal, wherever German centre-half Mertesacker arrived unmarked to nod in from the garden out. Umpire Marriner was at the center of debate again at the start of the second half when he revealed Arteta a card after Emanuelson went down following a quick break, with replays indicating it was a plunge by the Dutchman. With their credit, Fulham continued to press Arsenal in the place of just relax. Nevertheless, Berbatov was offered little help with Bryan Ruiz pushed into a greater part. Szczesny needed to be alert to side over a cross from Manolev which appeared to be sinking in, before Koscielny headed away as Berbatov attained the far post from the resulting corner. With 20 minutes left, Walcott was changed by Wilshere, while Lukas Podolski came on for Rosicky. Fulham had the ball in the net when Manolev tapped home after Szczesny built a free-kick from Kieran Richardson - but assistant referee Sian Massey made an excellent offside call. Collection kept harmful on the break, with Santi Cazorla's tilted travel blocked after wise build-up from Monreal and then Wilshere. System also finished with 10-men after Giroud was found a card after he clattered into Manolev. Ramsey manipulated a chance extensive after a fast break in stoppage time, but Arsenal had nearly done enough to provide their Champions League hopes a significant increase. Champions League final: Biggest German invasion ever since the fifth century as... -- The Independent.

Whatever the outcome of Saturday's Euro Champions League final at Wembley, no-one will have the capacity to deny that the Germans have finally mounted a 2nd successful invasion of the united kingdom.

About 50, 000 fans from the two giant clubs – Bayern Munich and additionally Borussia Dortmund – need travelled to London with tickets on the match, and a even more 100, 000 are estimated to have come from Germany with little prospect of going inside Wembley. Added with the 275, 000 Germans who live in great britan, it is going to be quite a party today. Willkommen.

Although it is the Germans' turn to sniff at our collection of sausages – the classified Bild has armoured readers using a warning over the hot dogs at Wembley, which together with being "unbelievably expensive" are "full of fat" – the fans should obtain a far friendlier reception than some may have expected even just one or two years ago.

In a survey with how European nations view one another published earlier this month, although the British named Germans as the "least compassionate" country, we did concede they will were the "most trustworthy" people relating to the continent.

Professor Heinz Wolff, a bio-engineer best known for appearing on The nice Egg Race, and some sort of British citizen, said this while stereotypes about Spanish efficiency still persist, that's not necessarily a bad thing. "It's often considered as a centre of commercial and industrial competence, " he or she said. "You only need evaluate the number of Audis along with Mercedes. It's viewed as a country that produces excellent goods. "

Professor Wolff, that fled Germany in 1939, said that today's younger generations project a photo of a more ecstatic, confident nation because they've been liberated from the baggage to a certain historical event.

"By along with large, the people which perpetrated the crimes can be dead now, " he said, adding by tool for reassurance: "So you don't have to be afraid any more of sitting close to someone who pushed people in a gas chamber. "

A year ago a man was trashed of a Peterborough bar for talking in German born, but the capital is right now packed with German-themed night clubs and restaurants: the far better known include Stein's inside Richmond, which stocks Bavarian dishes and ales, and a Octoberfest bar in Fulham.

With regard to Florian Frey, the 33-year-old regarding the successful Herman Ze German eatery in central London, more recent events have helped construct a fresh image for Germany. He cites the 2006 World Cup to give an example, when "everyone was celebrating – the English fans with the Germans and the Italians. "

Mr Frey, which will be supporting Munich, included: "People have learned that Germans have got a dash of humour, and we've got a few German football players in the Premier League who are doing very well. "

He promised he'd "never position a beach towel down by way of the pool in the morning", but admitted it was "quite charming to play with those clichés". Your name of his cafe, of course, is a jocular mention of the German pronounciation.

If you pick up a newspaper inside Berlin, says Professor Wolff, "five to ten percent of the words will be in English". He said Germans don't have the same "great pride" in their language as the The french language, which helps them to integrate better. In basic fact, in the Pew Homework Center poll, both Germany and Britian labelled the French as ones own "most arrogant" European neighbour – an alternate thing in common.

The acclaimed historian Chris Watson said that England still allows memories with the Second World War to "swamp" the connection between the two nations. "Germany has got above losing the War [better than] you'll find got over winning the War. "

The director for the Victoria and Albert Museum since 2011, Professor Roth was formerly Director General with the Dresden State Art Choices. He said there ended up a "definite" change with British attitudes towards Germany over the past 30 years. He challenged doing so that Germans have superior organisational skills, saying you're much like likely to see "chaotic air port infrastructure" and tardy trains over there.

The Polish-born Arsenal striker had a storming World Container in 2006, scoring three goals in a very campaign that ended in a very German third-place finish. 3 years later, though, he ended up being fined €5, 000 for slapping national-team captain Michael Ballack within the face.

Wehn, that's currently playing a sold-out UNITED KINGDOM tour, proves Germans is able to do comedy. The 39-year-old offers said: "I regularly get hold of heckled with evergreens, like '5-1' and 'two World Wars and another World Cup'. They're only funny the initial 8, 000 times people hear them. "

Creating the Perfect Offseason Plan for the Golden State Warriors

The team's core players are all under the age of 26, with Barnes at 20, Thompson at 23 and Curry bringing up the rear at 25. The potential is high for the two sharpshooters in the backcourt, but the highest upside belongs to the young star from North Carolina.

Much ballyhooed and perhaps a bit underrated after being severely overrated in college, he exploded in the postseason, joining Tim Duncan and Magic Johnson as players who scored over 20 points in multiple games.

To take the proverbial next step, Thompson will need to become a better ball-handler and dribbler, Curry a better defender and, most importantly, Barnes will need to become the scorer he is capable of being.

The Warriors rarely ran any plays for him, only 6.6 percent of his plays were off pick-and-rolls, according to Synergy, and if they reversed this trend, the offense could take off.

Take the Denver Nuggets series for example: When Lee was out, Barnes exploded with more shots and more spacing. The future is now, and with the continued developments of their young stars, the Warriors are on their way to becoming the next Oklahoma City Thunder.

Watch Official's Lousy Jump-Ball Toss in Knicks vs. Pacers Game 6

J.R. Smith's bricked jumpers weren't the only errant tosses in the New York Knicks' Game 6 battle against the Indiana Pacers. Referee Ken Mauer also joined the party by heaving up one of the worst jump balls in the history of organized basketball.

It's always a little weak to jump on officials. Usually, they're doing the best they can in what amounts to a no-win situation. No matter what they call, somebody is always unhappy.

Note to whiny fans: Your team probably lost because it wasn't any good—not because there's some league-wide conspiracy to shortchange your favorite squad.

Really, there are only two steps in the process. First, the referee has to wait until both players are ready and in position. Looking at the video above, it's pretty clear that Mauer blew that one.

Maybe this is the start of a new trend in the NBA: the surprise jump ball. That sounds kind of fun, doesn't it? A ref could either fire the ball up way before either team is ready or, even better, wait for about 10 minutes with all 10 players lined up. You know, just to see how long they'd stand still.

Anyway, Mauer missed the "timing" portion of his jump-ball officiating class. But he also screwed up the second part by tossing the ball right to Amar'e Stoudemire, who was so stunned by what happened that he spiked the rock right into the waiting arms of Sam Young.

Oh, I almost forgot that Mauer botched a third aspect of the jump ball. Look where he's standing! Don't be afraid, Kenny. You're allowed inside the circle. In fact, that's where every other referee in the history of basketball has stood during the jump ball. Get in there, buddy.

And it seemed like Mauer was under attack from all angles, as New York supporters came out of the woodwork to hassle him.

Ultimately, this isn't that big of a deal. But it's undeniably weird when something as common as a jump ball suddenly takes center stage in a playoff game for all the wrong reasons.

Precisely what Does Doug Free's Restructured Contract Mean for any Dallas Cowboys?

The Cowboys have remade a boatload of deals this offseason in an effort to free up cap house. The latest came at Thursday, when Dallas re-worked this contract of veteran a particular problem lineman Doug Free.

For the reason that Todd Archer of ESPN records, Free, who was your NFL's highest-paid right take on at around $8 thousand thousand a season, took a 50 percent pay cut to stay with the team.

Free of cost, who would have constructed $7 million in 2013 and counted for over $10 million with salary cap, will right now make $3. 5 thousand thousand, although that amount currently is fully guaranteed.

After playing well in 2010, the Cowboys rewarded Free by having a four-year, $32 million expansion that included $17 k in guarantees.

Since in that case, Free has done very small to justify all that will money. In 2011, Free ranked 44th involving all offensive tackles according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required). That precipitated a move to right tackle last 365 days.

With the end of the season, Free was platooning using Jermey Parnell. The Cowboys explored additional options in the offseason, such as free agents Tyson Clabo together with Eric Winston, but they've maintained all along they will were interested in delivering Free back.

What it does can is "free" up across $3 million in cap space for any Dallas team that's perpetually playing musical contracts since it tries to make the playoffs for to begin with since 2009.

That would make some sense. Lee has struggled injuries, but he's also shown the opportunity to be a difference-maker concerning defense, topping 100 tackles in 2011 and forcing typically three turnovers a year over the past three seasons.

Veteran safety Charles Woodson continues to looking for work after visiting the Denver Broncos the following week. The Cowboys' found options at safety are hardly world-beaters, and Dallas would basically fit Wooson's preference of playing in a contender.

Additionally, the Cowboys are generally precariously thin at going back behind DeMarco Murray, who's got had his fair share of problems with staying healthy. There are several free agents still on offer at the position, from Ahmad Bradshaw to your less appealing options like Michael Turner, Beanie Wells and Cedric Benson.

It may not be the most exciting directory names, but any of those backs could at the very least serve as a more proven policy against a Murray harm.

Granted, there's no guarantee that this Cowboys will use that cap space in all of these ways. However, it's a pretty safe bet that they'll work with it. Jerry Jones isn't accurately known for sitting on his hands.

The final word within this restructuring likely won't decreased until we see when Free can recapture previous form. However, even when he can't, the Cowboys get lessened the sting associated with cutting him. And when he does, $3. 5 million 12 months is a steal for any starting tackle.

Turn that savings into another player who can help the team, and also an extension for Shelter, and a good day to your Cowboys will become better.

QB Golson no longer enrolled at Notre Dame.

University spokesman Dennis Brown proclaimed Saturday night that Golson, who had 3 years of eligibility left after not playing as a freshman, was no longer enrollment at Notre Dame since Friday. Brown says he couldn't investigate why because of national privacy laws.

Golson helped lead the Fighting Irish in an undefeated regular season and the BCS title game last season being a first-time starter.

The departure leaves a leading question mark at a position where coach Brian Kelly was seeking to see major improvement within the offense that struggled for most of last season, with the Irish finishing 54th with the nation in total attackers, including 71st in spending offense. The most probable replacement is Tommy Rees, the 2011 starter who came inside play key roles inside victories over Purdue, Michigan, Stanford and Brigham Vibrant when Golson either fought or was injured.

But Rees lacks the mobility that Kelly interests and struggled with turnovers being a starter two seasons in the past. The other possibilities can be senior Andrew Hendrix, who has seen limited action nevertheless is more mobile than Rees and has two seasons of eligibility positioned, and freshman Malik Zaire. Gunner Kiel didn't take part in spring practices with the Irish and contains enrolled at Cincinnati.

Golson ended up being 187 of 318 driving, a 58. 8 end rate, with 12 touchdown goes over and six interceptions for the Irish went 12-1 very last season, losing 42-14 loss to Alabama inside the championship game. He had a pass efficiency status of 131. 01, setting him 62nd among quarterbacks country wide. But after a yr of quarterback controversy a year earlier, Golson was locked in as the starter for the upcoming season through to the news broke Saturday.

It does not take latest in a string of bad news for any Irish this year, beginning with the blowout loss to help Alabama, leaving many to question whether or not the Irish were as near to challenging for a domestic title as they was when they finished the standard season 12-0 and were ranked No. 1 for to begin with in nearly two decades. Then soon after a embarrassing loss, news broke about linebacker Manti Te'o, that Heisman Trophy runner-up, was duped into an Internet romance with a girlfriend he never met who became a man pretending to be the woman.

Bob Tebow Would Still Create a Positive Impact For Those NFL Teams.

And despite not receiving a legitimate opportunity with the brand new York Jets, that simply prevented him to be able to showcase any talent. His run inside 2011 season with that Denver Broncos was only a glimpse, though, because they had still flawed mechanics together with ill-advised decision-making.

That claimed, his dynamics possessed a good impact. NFL fans had been just denied it very last season. As for regarding who the winner not every team is defined at quarterback and Tebow's talent fits a lot better than given credit for.

Matt Flynn saw extremely little time with the Efficient Bay Packers and your partner's best game was against the Detroit Lions in 7 days 17 of 2011. This didn't impact regular-season standings and was against a good suspect pass defense.

Terrelle Pryor also has minimal game experience; aside from that, Tyler Wilson and He McGloin are rookies. Compare almost all their combined established ability and additionally Tebow outweighs everyone with the Raiders.

At the exact same time, he would be provided explosive receivers to aim for downfield. With his mobility to supply plays, Tebow does hold the arm strength to make playmaking opportunities at each and every field dimension.

In spite of the developmental strides because of Christian Ponder, Minnesota can utilize Tebow numerous ways. Also, Joe Webb just traveled to receiver from under center consistent with Sid Hartman of your Star Tribune:

Those who thought Joe Webb had no future to be a quarterback should be contented, because the former Alabama-Birmingham standout has become a full-time wide receiver with the Vikings.

In addition, Matt Cassel is not really a reliable solution right after having inconsistent campaigns while using the Kansas City Chiefs. Ponder is undoubtedly your best option, but bringing in Tebow will add an intriguing variable.

Whether it's occasionally in quarterback, fullback or tight result in a four-wide set opposing Kyle Rudolph, Tebow's athleticism can be an advantage for Minnesota. He'd also are very effective in simply deriving particular attention from Adrian Peterson, which unfortunately, in turn, prevents some defense from constantly stacking the box.

The Eagles reportedly had no curiosity about Tim Tebow, as tweeted just by Reuben Frank of CSN Philadelphia with April 29:

Even if only tied to a limited quarterback job, Tebow's scrambling ability builds Philadelphia's playbook. He's also surrounded by incredibly athletic players in Lane Manley, LeSean McCoy and DeSean Fitzgibbons.

Similar to Minnesota, the Eagles provide an explosive running back to aid set up the excrete. By the same token, Tebow becomes a short-yard situation advantage regardless of where he lines up.

With plenty of time until the 2013 season begins, don't be surprised when someone makes a move for Tebow being the real games close around.

Bayern Munich defeats Borussia Dortmund in Champions League final - Houston Times.

GREATER LONDON -- Arjen Robben scored with the 89th minute Saturday giving Bayern Munich a 2-1 triumph over German rival Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final, conclusion four years of discouragement for his team within Europe's biggest tournament.

Robben ran on to Franck Ribery's backheeled flick with the penalty box and with ease slotted the ball past goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller to allow Bayern its first Champs League victory since 2001. The German team had lost two in the last three finals, including on penalties to Chelsea last year in its own stadium in Munich.

In a game title that featured a multitude of chances for either teams, Mario Mandzukic put Bayern ahead inside 60th minute at Wembley Arena before Ilkay Gundogan leveled in the penalty spot eight a matter of minutes later, after defender Dante fouled Marco Reus in your community.

Robben, who missed two great chances within the first half, then finally came through for Bayern align off wild celebrations inside red-and-white end of Wembley. It was subsequently the perfect redemption with regard to Robben, who missed a penalty in more time of last year's previous, causing some Bayern fans to turn against him. A year later, after the finalized whistle sounded in Manchester, he received undivided adulation as he strode together with his arms raised toward the element of jubilant Bayern fans.

"It is very even. They have chances, we had probability, " Robben said. "Then the last minute, I was quicker on the ball. I missed a few chances before that but I stayed calm. "

Robben also set up the first goal for Bayern, taking a excrete from Ribery and illustrating Weidenfeller out toward your touchline before squaring designed for Mandzukic, who could hardly miss by a few yards out.

But the lead didn't last much time. Dante clumsily clattered into Reus in the area, and Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli pointed with the spot. Gundogan sent Manuel Neuer the wrong way before calmly slotting his spot kick in the right side of online.

The European Cup title caps an awesome season for Bayern, which broke tons of Bundesliga records in running away with the German league title — completing an unprecedented 25 points before second-place Dortmund. It can still complete a treble, since it faces Stuttgart in a German Cup final next Saturday.

Regardless of that will result, coach Jupp Heynckes could leave the German powerhouse in perfect style. Heynckes, who is stepping down afre the wedding of the season, won his second Champions League trophy after leading Real Madrid on the title in 1998. He may be replaced by Pep Guardiola next season, but the former Barcelona coach will have a hard time improving on this Bayern facet — which dismantled that Spanish giants 7-0 on aggregate inside semifinals.

For Dortmund, it is actually another bitter runner-up stop to its main similar, having seen Bayern end its two-year hold on the Bundesliga title.

"We are extremely proud to have given them a great contest, " Weidenfeller proclaimed. "But we didn't seem to win. We gave much of our best. We'll be rear next season. "

Bayern entered the game as the clear favorite, although that message didn't manage to have filtered through to help Juergen Klopp's Dortmund company, which seemed intent on dictating play before it starts. They largely succeeded with the first 25 minutes to boot, although it was Bayern that ended up with the best chances with the first half.

Mandezukic came closest as soon as his header was tipped upon the bar by Weidenfeller with the 26th, and the goalkeeper subsequently denied Robben four minutes later when speedy winger raced transparent on goal.

Before this, Neuer had been definitely the busier goalkeeper, make point-blank save from Jakub Blaszczykowski and diving to stop an effort from Sven Bender. Neuer at the same time pushed away long-range initiatives from Reus and Robert Lewandowski, before denying the Improve striker again from close range with the 35th.

Robben had the end chance of the about half when he beat Mats Hummels for a long ball into the area in the 42nd, but fired his volley inside Weidenfeller's face.

After Dortmund's equalizer, Thomas Mueller had a way to win it for Bayern when he rounded Weidenfeller, but his shot with a tight angle was cleared heli-copter flight line by Neven Subotic. Weidenfeller at the same time made good late helps you to save from David Alaba together with Bastian Schweinsteiger, before being helpless to give up Robben's winner.

Arsenal's laboured gain at Fulham shows need to build on foundations - Observer

Arsenal's minimalism could be a benefit or even a problem. Supporters expect that frantic victories like this can provide the twin goals of qualifying for the Champions League while convincing ArsAne Wenger and the club's directors that investment in more high-calibre players is needed if next year is usually to be more comfortable. Nevertheless the fear lingers that, if Arsenal do stick on to their top-four place, despite having the maximum amount of difficulty because they hung on because of this gain against a reduced Fulham, then your board can consider that no revamp is necessary. Ergo some followers genuinely believe that the shock of missing the Champions League would ultimately be more helpful than wins similar to this. There is a discussion, then, as to whether Arsenal's new work of good results is the work of a part that is papering over cracks or laying a for long-term success. Arsenal's purpose at Craven Cottage contained an idea or two, simultaneously showing too little imagination and a relationship that is working well. It was fitting that it came from interplay between Arsenal's centre-backs, Laurent Koscielny planning across the face of target for Per Mertesacker to nod in, because they have epitomised the resilience and determination that have permitted Arsenal to gather 19 items from the final 21 available. These features were important here, as Fulham afraid Arsenal despite being paid down to 10 males after Steve Sidwell was sent off in the 12th minute, and Arsenal lacked creativity and sharpness in the opposite box, just like they had performed against Everton in midweek. The new shows of Mertesacker and Koscielny have vindicated Wenger's choice to drop the club captain, Thomas Vermaelen, who'd created an alarming habit of earning errors. Without creating a direct comparison between his two potential partners, Koscielny says he feels confident with Mertesacker. "We play well together as a pair," he says. "His knowledge is essential and it helps us come together on the message. So we try and talk to each other a lot and it is crucial at the back to have understanding aPer is a excellent player. The ball is read by him well. He's clever. He strikes the wins and ball headers while I can go behind and be quick and cope with the balls. He is good theoretically therefore he is good for the defence. Per is calm on the frequency. He is advantageous to me and uses his experience and this helps me and he helps the team." The house match against Manchester United on Sunday may prove a helpful benchmark concerning how reliable Koscielny and Mertesacker may continue to be. They appear certain to begin that game even if Wenger maintains that he's "three excellent centre-backs" and it's "a very difficult decision" concerning whether to abandon Vermaelen again. A more challenging choice is usually to be made further forward, as Olivier Giroud can skip United's visit after being sent off within the last minute at Craven Cottage for a cumbersome handle on Stanislav Manolev. The Frenchman has hardly impressed currently but none of his possible substitutes has persuaded either. Theo Walcott was irrelevant on the best against Fulham and has not been effective usually enough at centre-forward to create his implementation there a foregone conclusion. Gervinho is equally inconsistent and Wenger doesn't seem to have full trust in minutes have been completed 90 by Lukas Podolski, who only twice in the Premier category all season. A decision will be made by "i later in the week," said Wenger of his striker issue. He is more sure of the contribution of Jack Wilshere. The 21-year-old was rested against Fulham as he continues to work his long ago from ankle difficulty and you can find reports that he may need surgery in the summer to displace a pin inserted in to his ankle following his initial injury in 2011, but the manager says the player is going to be available in a few days. "I only felt to give him three games in six days would be too much. Now he's a break until next Sunday and therefore he'll be accessible that is different. There is no fundamental foot problem." Man of the fit Urby Emanuelson (Fulham)

Andy Roddick Starts Next Phase of Career by Joining Fox Sports 1

As a tennis player, Andy Roddick was rarely a member of a team. Sure, there were doubles competitions and Davis Cup appearances, but for the most part Roddick lived the secular life of a professional tennis player.

There is no "all for one and one for all" in tennis. It's all for me and the rest be damned. Even Roddick's decision to walk away from the sport after the 2012 U.S. Open was ripe with independent spirit. He had just turned 30 years old, which is elderly enough for him to be post-prime, but he was still younger than then-top-ranked Roger Federer.

And with Roddick still being the most famous American men's tennis player in the world despite his downtick in play, no one could have blamed him for continuing well into his 30s. The limelight isn't easy to give up, especially when endorsement deals are banging down your door.

Yet, Roddick moved on. He saw his commitment wavering and his body breaking down and decided it was time for a new challenge.

We officially found out Wednesday what that challenge will be. For the first time, Roddick will be joining a team—a broadcast team. The former top-ranked player will be joining the new Fox Sports 1 network, as announced in a press release on Fox Sports' official website.

It is very rare that you find an exceptional athlete who can step off the field or in this case the court, who has the potential to be as equally talented in an on-air role. Andy is not only an expert tennis analyst, but his knowledge, candor and opinions on all sports are equally as impressive, and that makes him a unique fit for what we have in mind for FOX SPORTS LIVE.

Roddick be on-board with the network starting on August 17, which is when Fox Sports 1 will launch. He will be joining the cast of Fox Sports Live, which is the network's answer to SportsCenter.

According to Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch, Roddick's role will be that of co-host with Charissa Thompson, who is leaving ESPN at the end of her contract. Fox Sports Live will air in a three-hour block from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. ET and will contain a multitude of programming.

Landing Roddick is just the latest coup for Fox Sports 1. Meant to be a direct competitor to ESPN, the 24-hour sports network has spent the past few months accumulating a gaggle of high-profile talent. Outside of landing Thompson, who was a rising star in the Disney family, Fox Sports 1 will also be the home of Regis Philbin's return to television in Rush Hour, a daily panel talk show with a yet-to-be announced cast.

Roddick, though, is Fox Sports 1's first critical blow in an area where Bristol has always thrived—hiring former athletes as television analysts. The Worldwide Leader has become something of a refuge for retired players and fired/retired coaches, offering secondary careers for those looking for a career in broadcasting.

Roddick was arguably the top free-agent on the market in that limited pool of talent. Known for his quick wit and at times unnecessarily strong opinions, Roddick has long seemed like a natural fit for television. He's one of the most openly opinionated players in tennis' history, and many of his heart-on-sleeve moments came at the expense of the media.

Speaking with Deitsch, Roddick noted that Fox allowing him to express strong opinions played a large role in him taking the gig.

"Throughout the interview process I was very honest," Roddick said. "I was the way I have always been: pretty direct and pretty opinionated. I think that's what they were looking for. I don't know if they were looking for a typical, run-of-the-mill type of show or someone with fabricated opinions."

The question, of course, is whether any of this will work. Sports broadcasting is a tricky business, filled with athletes whose wittiness and openness as pro athletes seemingly tailor made them for a post-playing days career on television.

Sometimes those analysts become Charles Barkley, whose irreverence carried over perfectly to the small screen. Other times they become Tiki Barber, who would have been NBC's biggest bust of 2007 if it weren't for Cavemen.

And on the business side of things, launching a 24-hour sports network isn't what one would call a pre-paved road. CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network both rebranded existing networks (CBS College Sports Network for CBS and Versus for NBC) in recent years hoping to compete with ESPN, but we're still far too early in the process to see how that's going.

All superficial signs point toward Roddick being an excellent television analyst and Fox Sports 1's launch to go off well. But Roddick's tennis career was filled with unfulfilled promise, as his early flashes of greatness never quite became the world-beating dominance most American tennis fans expected a decade ago.

That's the problem with judging these hires, you just never know. But for now, Fox has landed the biggest free agent in the sports broadcasting game. We'll just have to wait until August to see how it all plays out.

Fourth Place Isn't Enough For Arsenal.

In this 52nd minute at Saint. James' Park, the expected happened. Arsenal scored. Not many would have banked over the rejuvenated Laurent Koscielny so that you can break the deadlock in such a fine fashion, putting his team firmly within the driving seat after your well taken half-volley, but it surely was no surprise to find another Wenger team at risk of the Champions League (with the qualification round for their path) for the umpteenth time in a row (16 to be exact). Once again, The Gunners had got a particular over their fierce competitors Tottenham Hotspur, who, no matter Gareth Bale's efforts, were powerless to money the trend and take North London bragging rights in the red contingent.

When the final whistle blew, Arsenal's players jubilantly celebrated that they had won some silverware containing long since eluded them. And who could guilt them after spending a substantial chunk of the season languishing outside of the top four? After most, since the loss of their total talisman Robin Van Persie, many sceptics had penned off Wenger's troops believing them to have finally capitulated after an absence of investment in the move market. But, Tottenham becoming Tottenham, the prospects on the lillywhite festivity eventually sagged, and now Thursday nights on UK TV are back in haunt Andre Villas-Boas together with co.

Having to marshal some team of capable competitors, glaringly absent of world-beaters, Wenger has fulfilled the minimum expectations with the board and the fans, and his achievement is absolutely not to be scoffed at while using the battle for a Champions League spot now more arduous than ever before. It goes without saying that it current Arsenal side are no match with regard to their predecessors, with Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere the only real genuine sprinkles of stardust in a very line-up that does little to whet the cravings, now that all your major players have defected with regard to meatier salaries and, most importantly, a stab at that big prizes.

Just over two months previously, when Tottenham emerged victorious with the derby on March final, it seemed that the long awaited sea improve had finally arrived. With the Welsh wizard smashing within goals from left appropriate and centre, it looked for any moment that the perpetual also-rans were on their way to the provides land, with their foe seemingly unfit to be a riposte. However, looking for crushing defeat that departed Arsenal seven points adrift in addition to their task looking extremely insurmountable, the players galvanised on their own, taking 26 points from a possible 30. And which means, the chants of 'Boring boring Arsenal' filled the terraces just as before, with many a neutral disappointed to see Spurs throwing their dreams away in predictable way.

Now that the all natural order of things is defined in stone for another season at least, what can we hope from Wenger and his team when around? Will they mount a significant challenge for European achievement, or will they, as is foreseeable, fail to bring in the necessary quality to compete with the top sides? Too many times possess Arsenal bowed out meekly to names like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and additionally, perhaps most painfully, Manchester United. Since 2006, the entire year when they last reached one more, Arsenal have never realistically seemed like getting their hands over the greatest trophy available around club football. That night the pair were unfortunate to lose to a pre-Messi Barcelona, then below the command of Frank Rijkaard, with Wenger's men fighting gallantly after losing Jens Lehmann to the red card. Back subsequently, Arsenal were still a force to remain reckoned with, boasting some sort of side that included Gilberto Silva, Robert Pires, Alexander Hleb, and also the genius of Thierry Holly. Seven years after which pain and disappointment, they've already quite simply failed to kick on and recapture the greatness with the famed Unbeatables.

One of the primary advantages for Arsenal's slump is a board's apparent unwillingness to change big-name departures many years, leaving the fans exasperated together with understandably morbid about their team's outlook for the new season. The customary forecast to a top-four finish is simply not enough to satisfy the long-serving sectors for the Emirates crowd, who have to shell out mind-boggling amounts of money merely watch their team don't go that extra mile as names like Chelsea and Manchester City grow stronger and jeopardize to displace United's rule of tyranny.

When Holly departed for Spain within 2007, Wenger had to patiently wait for Robin Van Persie to help you finally overcome his injury struggles and mature in a world-class centre-forward, with only Emmanuel Adebayor to rely on, who would then ditch the team to your riches of Manchester City after a period that reaped only one decent season using four. Once Van Persie possessed established himself, there was little good quality to support him restrictive goalscoring burden was left solely on the Dutchman, with the likes Marouane Chamakh in addition to Andre Arshavin providing no assistance when the running got tough.

Furthermore, the lack of urgency for the replace the losses associated with Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas sole served to prove that those presents itself the hierarchy at Arsenal cant be found taking the team's drop seriously enough, opting for prudence so that they can recoup the funds used on the new stadium. Although the Emirates was an expensive project to speak about the least, the club may possibly have acquired the necessary finances even more swiftly if they experienced taken a gamble with the transfer market and pushed the boat out so that you can sign players of actual quality, and in to do so seized the trophies that now look so far out of reach.

The chasm in Arsenal's midfield which goes back to the farewell involving Patrick Viera, combined with Wenger's failure to determine a solid back four and snare a trusted goalkeeper, are just some a multiplicity of reasons why the team has already been left punch-drunk in European union and domestic competitions. Recently in the Champions Category, they were knocked out through the mighty force of Bayern Munich, who were embarrassingly superior at This Emirates, and despite a 2-0 victory at the Allianz Arena, the fightback came they want too late as Arsenal went on away goals. With the aftermath, some fans phoned inside BBC Radio 5 Stay and Talksport to applaud ones own teams efforts in Germany, claiming that the missed surge justified their belief that Arsenal wasn't yet on the wain. In truth, the win was barley a smaller consolation from the letdown of an alternate high-profile blow.

In days gone by eight years, the controlling forces within the club, including Wenger, have settled for not enough, citing European qualification as a marker of accomplishment when it will in fact only get one objective amongst a lot of when establishing the goals to your upcoming campaign. For a club of Arsenal's proportions and reputation, ambitions has to be higher, and if they are already, the purse strings must loosen a little for you to back up the convictions. The fans deserve more; they are left to wait for too long and the situation is starting to look dire. A set up the Champions League will not paper over the crevices; only the trophy will do.

In hindsight, if Tottenham have qualified for Europe, one is left to ponder whether Daniel Levy sometimes have provided AVB with this coffers to mount a critical offense. In their one and only campaign since the inception of the tournament, Harry Redknapp took the team to the quarter-finals, before succumbing for the herculean force of Serious Madrid. If Peter Crouch has not been sent off at the Bernabeu, the outcome in the tie may have turned out differently and who knows how far Spurs may have vanished? If Arsenal fail to make for the 16th time in a row, the question of their earnestness over the main stage is often more poignant than ever.

Bruce Irvin Suspended 4 Games for Violating League PED Policy

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Bruce Irvin has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, according to The Seattle Times' Bob Condotta:

I want to apologize to my teammates, coaches and Seahawks fans for making a mistake when I took a substance that is prohibited in the NFL without a medical exemption. I am extremely disappointed in the poor judgment I showed and take full responsibility for my actions. I will not appeal the discipline and instead will focus my energy on preparing for the season so I can begin earning your trust and respect again. I look forward to contributing to the team the moment I return.

Irvin is not the first Seahawks player to make news for alleged Adderall use. Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman was suspended last season by the NFL for the same drug. However, Sherman was able to have the ruling overturned after appealing the league's decision.

Just last month, Sherman made news again after claiming that a "bunch" of NFL players use Adderall because they have prescriptions to treat ADHD among other disorders. He added that he has never taken the drug before.

The 23-year-old will enter his second season in the NFL in 2013. A former star with the West Virginia Mountaineers, Irvin was drafted 15th overall by the Seahawks in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft. At the time, he was considered by most to be a reach, but he ended up turning in an impressive rookie season.

Irvin recorded 16 tackles, eight sacks and a forced fumble in 2012, helping lead Seattle to the playoffs as a Wild Card in the NFC. He also notched one sack in Seattle's playoff win over the Washington Redskins. For his efforts, he was named to the PFW/PFWA All-Rookie team.

Arsenal FC: Would Moving Thomas Vermaelen to Defensive Midfield Be Feasible? - Rant Sports

His best friend, Robin van Persie, leaving Arsenal, his form slipping and then being assigned captaincy, 2012 was a tough year for Thomas Vermaelen even if a dream came true becoming the Gunners' skipper. With some inconsistent performances, 2013 was about to get harder for the Belgian as his poor performances inevitably got him dropped — despite being captain.

While the performances of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in defense have been reassuring, there have been talks that Vermaelen could leave for Barcelona. While some fans would be okay with that, given his form, Vermaelen is still a really good player when he's at the top of his game and losing another captain will not only continue an annoyingly growing trend but wouldn't provide continuity at the club.

Hence, many have suggested moving the Belgian forward as a defensive midfielder as it would suit his game and give him some game-time. If it's successful, not only will Arsenal have good back-up in that position for Mikel Arteta — who is currently injured — but it could provide a successor for the Spaniard as well, given how little faith, manager Arsene Wenger has put in Francis Coquelin. But is it feasible?

It's a move that has suited Chelsea's David Luiz well — and Vermaelen certainly has the tools to be a defensive midfielder; energetic, aggressive and strong, he could add steel in Arsenal's midfield.

Known for his attacking exploits, Vermaelen's even stopped going forward in recent months, leaving the defense less exposed so it could work. Helping his case, the Belgian is a ball playing defender predominantly and so, could distribute the ball efficiently in midfield as well.

However, his positioning isn't all that great and is one aspect he would certainly need to work on, especially if he is being converted into a defensive midfielder where such an aspect is crucial.

Should Vermaelen fill in for Arteta in Arsenal's crucial game against Newcastle United? No. It is too big a game for experiments. But testing the Belgian in that role should definitely be tried out during preseason as it could work, and who knows? Maybe even becoming a masterstroke of a move.

Penguins top Senators 4-1 to take series opener

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Paul Martin and Chris Kunitz scored power-play goals and Pascal Dupuis added his sixth goal of the playoffs and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Ottawa Senators 4-1 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Tuesday.

Colin Greening scored for the Senators. Craig Anderson made 26 saves but Ottawa had no answer for Pittsburgh's power play.

The Penguins are 9 of 24 with the man advantage through seven playoff games, best of the eight teams remaining in the postseason.

The Senators had the NHL's best penalty kill during the regular season and turned aside 16 of 19 penalties against Montreal in the first round.

Pittsburgh was pushed to six games by the New York Islanders during a spirited first-round series in which the youthful Islanders had the Penguins on their heels at times.

Still, Pittsburgh advanced to the conference semifinals for the first time in three years behind the power play and a gutsy move by coach Dan Bylsma to bench top goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury and replace him with Vokoun.

The 36-year-old Vokoun made his 713th NHL start on Tuesday, but his first with the stakes this big. Despite admitting to some butterflies when told he would get the starting assignment for Game 1, Vokoun overcame some shaky moments early to settle down.

Pittsburgh didn't need to wait long to get a chance to put the power play to work. Ottawa's Kyle Turris drew a high-sticking penalty before the game was 90 seconds old, and barely a minute later, Pittsburgh jumped in front.

Malkin worked his way into the corner then threaded a pass between two Ottawa defenders to Martin at the point. Martin's slap shot from the point deflected off Ottawa defenseman Jared Cowen and scooted past Anderson just 2:41 into the game to give the Penguins an early lead.

The Senators didn't take long to tie it, evening things at 1 on the kind of soft goal Vokoun had avoided during his two stellar starts against the Islanders.

Ottawa's Erik Condra won a battle in the corner for the puck then threw it from behind the goal to the side of the net.

Vokoun, anticipating a crossing pass instead of a shot, found himself out of position. The puck squirted behind him and was inches from the goal line before Greening reached over the goaltender and poked it in.

Malkin responded with his third goal of the playoffs, though his linemates did all the hard work. James Neal poke-checked the puck away from Cowen behind the Ottawa net then fed it to Chris Kunitz.

Kunitz then zipped a pass to Malkin's awaiting stick just outside the goal crease and all the reigning NHL MVP had to do was tap it in to put the Penguins back in front.

They even managed to get the puck by him a few times. Just not into the net. On several occasions Vokoun would find himself on the ground as the puck skittered through the crease or toward the goal. Each time it was steered out of danger.

Anderson wasn't quite so fortunate. Pittsburgh went back to the power play late in the second period and Kunitz stuffed home a rebound off an Iginla shot to give the Penguins a 3-1 cushion.

Dupuis, whose five goals against the Islanders led the team, beat Anderson at the end of a short-handed 2-on-1 breakaway with 8:36 remaining to put it away.

NOTES: The Senators went 0 for 5 on the power play and are just 1 for 17 with the man advantage against Pittsburgh this season. ... Vokoun is 13-1 in his past 14 starts. ... Iginla's seven-game point streak in the playoffs is the longest of his career. ... Injured Ottawa C Jason Spezza (back) did not travel with the team for Game 1 but has not been ruled out for Game 2.

Kansas Location Chiefs: Takeaways from Might 21 OTAs.

Head coach Andy Reid along with the Kansas City Chiefs returned to the practice field on May possibly 21, which marked that team's fourth day with organized team activities (OTAs).

During the entire first wave of times (May 14–16), the defense consistently pestered its offensive peers—the tides have begun to turn.

But that's not to talk about that the defense is overshadowed; more like the balance of power has teeter-tottered to your stalemate.

Andy Reid arrived at KCI with packed sacks, lofty ambitions and a touted West Coast crime. He soon grabbed headlines with the help of former Minnesota Vikings scalp coach Brad Childress to help his staff—designating him being "spread game analyst. inches Recently, Reid enlisted that services of Chris Ault: your mastermind behind the gun scheme.

This isn't ones own grandfather's offense (nor Brian Daboll's, for that matter). Several practices barely allow this players to scratch the surface.

But backup quarterback Chase Daniel affirmed of the fact that inexperienced playmakers are rounding the educational curve, claiming in a page in the Kansas Community Star, "There were zero, 'What? ' calls inside the huddle to us and 'What does this really mean? ' You can enlighten our guys are exploring. "

According for the Kansas City Star's Adam Teicher, offensive tackle Donald Stephenson crack time at both safeguard positions.

The transition carries two notions: Donald Stephenson has proven to be too valuable an asset don't utilize, and Jeff Allen offers ceased to effectively generate his case.

The move sprouts a host of additional questions concerning Allen's development. Last season's second-round choice was consistently bullied simply by bull-rushers in 2012.

The Chiefs forced some sort of measly total of 13 turnovers in 2012—tied for last within the NFL. That won't become the case under new sheltering coordinator Bob Sutton.

Pro Toilet bowl outside linebacker Justin Houston noted the difference to KCChiefs. com's Reid Ferrin, indicating, "There are a small number of changes. Some of that calls, and the way some of our big guys play up front. They're attacking more, instead of reading. "

WWE Extreme Rules 2013: What Happens Now for Both John Cena and Ryback?

First Ryback injures then-WWE champion CM Punk, forcing him out of TLC last year, and now it appears the neophyte who was rushed to superstardom has hurt "Superman."

The image of Ryback driving the current WWE champion, John Cena, through the lighting and onto the back flooring of the arena is a chilling one, causing this writer to ask plenty of questions—including if Ryback is a threat to hurt anyone he wrestles because he appears to be "raw" and misses marks at times, causing injury.

This is one instance where you hope this was "planned" and it is part of the WWE's plan to bring back CM Punk as a face again with the company.

With one month until Payback in Chicago, if this was not a "fix," then the WWE may be in a world of hurt. It cannot afford to lose any more faces within the franchise. Numbers are dwindling. Fans are in shock, and I am still trying to figure out who will come to aid of the WWE and save it from its depletion.

Dolph Ziggler is out with a concussion. Christian is MIA. Punk will be involved with Payback because it is in Chicago. Undertaker is out on injured reserve.

Ryback and Cena's match, which was fairly decent up until the end, has such an impact on what will happen in the next few weeks, more so on other wrestlers than themselves. It appeared this was not part of the plan and Cena was indeed injured. Ryback was helped backstage, and Vince McMahon must be on the phone calling one of his lifelines for help.

Who fills the void? Does Cena play through the pain? Does Ziggler come back as a face and turn on AJ. It would be awesome if he was Kaitlyn's secret admirer. What a tangled web the WWE weaves.

But let's stay focused here on Ryback and Cena. Cena is more affected by this than Ryback if both are injured, where it looks like Cena took the brunt of the injury. But booking, planning, hoping and staging have now all been compromised.

I am sure Vince was on the phone immediately to Punk, asking him to return sooner than later and possibly to Batista, asking Dave to come back and save the day. A lot can happen in a month, and in this case, it needs to get better than worse.

In the WWE's case, the later is more likely. Everyone is in a "wait and see" mode until Monday night, when the real message will be sent. If the WWE does, in fact, lose Cena to an extended injury, this changes the whole dynamic of the company and possibly makes Vince and the boys plan a new road to recovery that will focus on new superstars and force the company to see the error of putting too many gimmicks in one basket.

Extreme Rules was average at best Sunday night. John Cena being injured may have made it worse than WrestleMania based on the impact his injury would have.

Ohio State Football: National Identify Hopes Rest on Elegant Meyer's Shoulders.

In fact, you could make an incident that the Buckeyes aren't even inside the top five in regards to talent on paper, what with the departures of defensive linemen Johnathan Hankins along with John Simon, outside linebacker Etienne Sabino, small end Jake Stoneburner together with fullback Zach Boren.

We all figure out what Meyer is capable with. He not only claimed two national championships with Florida, he also lifted Ohio State for a perfect 12-0 record in his first year like Buckeyes coach last period.

This year, the task will be even more complicated than last season. To be a true national contender, the Buckeyes need some freshmen to improve.

Sure, these aren't only just any freshmen. Safety Vonn Bell had been a 5-star recruit, as per 247Sports. com's composite rankings. Four-star recruits such when cornerback Eli Apple, defensive end Joey Bosa and additionally playmakers Jalin Marshall together with Dontre Wilson figure to earn an impact in their own first years.

Particularly inside cases of Marshall and additionally Wilson, Meyer will have to utilise his magic touch to have the most out of her young talent.

Marshall and Wilson are ideal athletes for Meyer to employ. Given their speed, elusiveness and additionally playmaking ability, they may well fit wonderfully into Meyer's extended offense. Memories of Percy Harvin with Florida instantly sprout up in the spring.

A coach's job is to exploit out of his talent. Ohio State's youngsters have got great potential, but Meyer may need to put them in the suitable situations to succeed, like he's carried out with countless players before, like Miller.

The expectations are exceedingly high for the Buckeyes inside 2013-14. Whether they meet these expectations would be determined by how well Meyer are able to mold his young talent in a cohesive unit.

File: Beckford talks hit standstill.

It appeared like the transfer discussions designed for Jermaine Beckford between Bolton Wanderers in addition to Leicester City were moving within weeks. Just under two many days ago, the two clubs had opened talks and then a day later, the £1 million asking price for Beckford emerged. At present, a report from this Leicester Mercury says that this two clubs are way apart for their valuations of the participant.

Beckford moved to Leicester City at first of the 2011/12 months, following a year in Everton, for a known fee of £2. 5 mil. Since then, he had essentially already been deemed surplus to requirements within the Foxes and any problem manager Nigel Pearson is set to move him with. Dougie Freedman appears to be keen on the striker but wants a cut price push. That is where this £1 million fee also comes in.

According the the Mercury state, Bolton Wanderers are trying to get a lower fee as compared to that with Leicester going to cut their losses simply by as small a margin as is feasible. As such, talks tend to be a deadlock.

There are other players in the mix for Beckford, which include, but not limited to help, his old teams Leeds Usa and Huddersfield Town

Crowne Plaza Colonial Invitational History and Winner’s List

Unlike Arnold Palmer and Byron Nelson, there's no tournament named for Ben Hogan. But if there was one, it would be The Colonial. Hogan won here at the Colonial Invitational five times (1946, 1947, 1952, 1953, 1959) and considered the Colonial Country Club his home course.

The genesis and inspiration for the Colonial Invitational was the 1941 US Open, which was held at Colonial Country Club. It was the first US Open held south of the Mason-Dixon line, and was thought a huge success. Local organizers hoped to capitalize on that goodwill, and in 1946 launched The Colonial Invitational.

Much of the appeal of the Colonial is that it has been played on the same classic course since its inception. Indeed, it's impossible to imagine the tournament not being held there. The club, which dates to 1936, was designed by John Bredemus and Perry Maxwell and has among its memorable vistas holes that extend along the length of the Trinity River.

The Colonial National Invitational had no title sponsor until 1988, when it became the MasterCard Colonial Invitational. In 2003, it was picked up by Bank of America. In 2007, it became the Crown Plaza Invitational At Colonial. The current purse is $6,200,000, with $1,116,000 going to the winner.

The Colonial winners' list looks like a Hall of Fame roster. In addition to Hogan, there's Palmer, Snead, Casper, Bolt, De Vicenzo, Stockton, Crenshaw, Nicklaus, Price, Watson and Mickelson (Tiger is curiously absent). The strength of the winners' roster is in part due to the strength of field: The Colonial is an Invitational, with only the top 80 players on the previous year's money list guaranteed a spot.

A unique tradition at the Colonial is the "Champion's Choice." Each year, former Colonial Invitational Champions select two young players to join the field who otherwise would be ineligible. Among the Champions Choices were Al Greiberger, Tom Weiskopf, Craig Stadler, Curtis Strange, Mark O'Meara, Paul Azinger and Davis Love. Dave Stockton won the tournament in the year he was selected.

While the Masters has the Green Jacket, the Colonial offers a Scottish tartan plaid jacket for its champions and committee chairmen. The tournament and Colonial Golf club also is marked by the engraved marble Wall of Champions near the first tee, which features the name and score of each of the tournament's winners.

A random note: In 2003, Annika Sorenstam played the Colonial Invitational, becoming the first women to play a PGA Tour event since Babe Zaharias entered the Los Angeles Open.

There's always Next Year: My Life being a Chicago Bulls Fan.

For providing I have appreciated activities, the Chicago Bulls have been completely a religion to me. I was six yrs . old when Michael Jordan received his last championship with the Bulls in 1998, i absolutely haven't exactly felt this glory of what it can be like to win a championship.

The closest I've come is after the Bulls won Game hands down the Eastern Conference Finals in 2011 resistant to the Heat. In my dreams though, the Bulls have got won countless championships.

I actually play basketball alone in the garden, simulating future epic Bulls video game titles. In my games, Derrick Rose has hit game-winners about the Heat, Joakim Noah comes with made game-winning blocks with LeBron James, and LeBron has missed crucial free punches.

I interview myself personally when I'm driving, pretending to be Derrick Rose, Tom Thibodeau or simply whoever, talking about what are you doing with the Bulls time of year.

I've seen considerably during my tenure for a Bulls fan. I've expert the Tim Floyd era, the busts of Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler along with Marcus Fizer, the The author Williams motorcycle accident together with countless other memories.

I've had many favorite players for a Bulls fan, including Elton Type, Jalen Rose, Kirk Hinrich in addition to Derrick Rose.

I've committed myself year in and year out to this fact organization as a freakout. Watching a Bulls game has grown more than just an interest; it's become a assignments assignment. I feel guilt ridden not watching them. Be it a pointless regular-season game against the Charlotte Bobcats or playoff game about the Miami Heat, I simply have to watch this team enjoy.

Every year, around October, I'm anticipating that upcoming Bulls season, praying that can be the year. Praying i will one day go through the joy that Ben Wrightman was feeling when his Red Sox won the entire world Series in Fever Toss.

I'm sure I'll be judged in case you read this article. Absolutely, I am pathetic. Without a doubt, I do revolve gaming around a basketball team in Chicago while i live in Philadelphia. In addition to yes, I love it.

The last two seasons for the Bulls have been problematic ones filled with good and the bad. After a 2010- 2011 season that the Bulls lost the Eastern Conference Finals to your Miami Heat, I went inside the following season with expectations they can could actually win your championship.

I don't have to bore you with additional blood gets break of the Bulls 2011-2012 shortened, lockout season. Screw it, I'll do it nonetheless.

After finishing with the best record in the NBA with the second straight season, the Bulls headed in the playoffs healthy, looking to avenge the last season's loss to Holland.

Then everything that might go wrong went incorrect. Derrick Rose tore his ACL in Game 1, and two games later, Joakim Noah poorly sprained his ankle, which causes him to miss a series.

I'm not even going to gain access to detail as to what happened for the reason that series. Let's just say it triggered me driving home from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia where I may or may not get broken my front looking glass by punching it using rage.

I didn't even mention the truth that I sobbed like slightly kid when Derrick Elevated tore his ACL. Oops. I just now did.

Another season has passed for ones Bulls, and it's time to reflect on what appeared in 2012-2013. It was a season of transition with the Bulls, as all year lengthy the anticipated return associated with Derrick Rose was purported to happen.

The only difficulty was it never took place. I'm not bashing Rose in any respect. If he wasn't available, he wasn't ready. Everyone has to take a step back preventing criticizing him. Only Rose knows and never the Doctors.

The hope all along shock as to was that if the Bulls could hold the idea down until Rose returned, they could make some noise with the playoffs. He didn't go back, and they still made some noise inside playoffs.

Credit that to Tom Thibodeau, who is actually famous for his key phrase, "we have more than enough to win along with. " This season, the Bulls took over the character of their top of your head coach, playing with heart and pride with an injury-riddled season.

Game 4 and Game 7 inside the first round of the playoffs about the Brooklyn Nets were mmorpgs that made you get pleasure from this Bulls team.

Leading 2-1 with the series, the Bulls faced a 109-95 deficit against the Nets with 3: 45 seconds left with the game. Then, Nate Johnson happened.

Robinson, who the Bulls introduced to replace C. L Watson, erupted for 23 fourth-quarter points, just left out Michael Jordan's record by one point. Kirk Hinrich, who the Bulls signed to Derrick Rose, played fifty nine: 36 seconds, finishing by means of 18 points and sixteen assists. Little did someone know, but that would be your last game Kirk Hinrich would likely play in these playoffs.

In among the best games in NBA playoff heritage, the Bulls shocked that Nets in triple overtime, winning 142-134 to adopt a 3-1 series steer.

Three games later, in the blink of an eye ball, it was Game 7, and the Bulls had given at bay a 3-1 series point. Playing without Hinrich for a calf injury and Luol Deng for a spinal tap, the Bulls were severely short handed and had to journey to Brooklyn.

This looked to remain the end of the trail. I guess someone need to have told Tom Thibodeau along with Joakim Noah that.

Noah guided the Bulls from an emotional Game 7 gain, pouring in 24 elements, 14 rebounds and 6 impeded shots. It was the most beneficial game of Noah's job, given the circumstances.

I couldn't have been any prouder about this Bulls team after of which Game 7 victory. I don't care if it's round one or that Bulls still had no chance to win the championship. I wanted this game. I wanted a shot at Miami this round.

I think I underestimated my hate with the Heat. I think I underestimated how frustrated I'd personally get in the next round. I'm surprised there isn't any crack in my TV screen maintain.

There were some highs within the series against the Temperatures, such as when Nate Brown took over Game 1 and when Nazr Mohammed pushed LeBron to the floor.

Online game 4, the Bulls looked like a team that was worn out, undermanned and beaten. Shooting 19-of-74 from the field, the Bulls got trounced at home against the Heat, 88-65. Nate Robinson, who had saved the Bulls a multitude of times in the postseason, had been scoreless, shooting 0-of-12 from the field.

I was so worn out from the loss that I cannot even imagine the Bulls re-occurring and winning the sequence. I tried to have fun with basketball outside, but I didn't enjoy the drive. They just weren't adequate to do it, even in my fantasies. The team was too pummelled and had expended a great deal of energy being so undermanned.

Within Game 5, I travelled in expecting a decrease. The Bulls surprised me all over again, playing with so substantially heart, overcoming a 22-4 first-quarter guide. I should have known we can.

Leading 77-69 at the final of the third 1 fourth, the Bulls got outscored twenty-five to 14, ending their magical ride for the Jimmy Butler missed three-pointer. Incredibly, I didn't tear in place. Not yet at least.

As I sit concerning my couch hidden with my Kirk Hinrich jersey, I decide on all that happened regarding who the winner with the Bulls. They showed grit and longevity, winning Game 7 with Brooklyn without two of their total leaders, Kirk Hinrich together with Luol Deng. Two days or weeks later, they did a similar thing, but in South Beach.

My highlight of the growing season was when Kirk Hinrich ripped the ball right out of the hands of Chris Bosh during that Miami game, summarizing the Bulls' character in one play.

I'm so like to show off this team. They left it all out there. I left all this out there with them, losing my voice performance after game, whether it was cheering for Nate Velupe, booing LeBron James or even screaming at Carlos Boozer so that you can play defense.

If I offended you within this Bulls season, it's nothing personal. I have a duty to stick up for my team together with defend them. I've gotten your back, Derrick Rose. Trust me.

Next year or so, who knows what this Bulls team can be like. With Derrick Rose coming back again and Kirk Hinrich and Marquis Teague still in the team, it's hard to think Nate Robinson will get back. It'll be interesting to check out what the Bulls do with Marco Belinelli much too, who is also a complimentary agent.

You hear rumblings of Kevin Love coming over for Chicago, and with a emergence of Jimmy Butler, does that make Luol Deng expendable? Have Bulls fans reached the tipping point along with Carlos Boozer after another poor showing inside the playoffs against Miami?

Whichever happens, the one constant is that We will be watching this team play. I'll be glued so that you can my TV, computer screen or phone each pixel Bulls game.

I'll be screaming within the team as if they will hear me and jumping top to bottom like Tom Thibodeau over the bad call.

Postmatch Report: True Madrid Castilla 6-1 MirandAs (Liga Adelante) - Madridismo ORG

Undefeated at the Di StAfano Stadium in 2013 and having won away last week against Recreativo de Huelva (you will discover the total report and interviews here) --they hadn't won away since matchday 25 in XArez, Real Madrid Castilla were experiencing still another of their immediate competitors today, namely MirandAs. Before this match (match day 35), the Whites were standing #14 with 44 points while MirandAs was #17 with 38 points, only two ranks from the relegation zone. For this fit, Alberto Toril could not have Nacho FernAndez or Carlos Casemiro, as both performed 90' with the first team yesterday evening against Betis (you will find the full record and interviews here). Casemiro's lack was Alex FernAndez' possibility to shine so that you can take to and get his location on the starting XI back. Alvaro Morata was provided by the first group. The beginning XI included: TomAs MejAas, Juanfran Moreno (d), IvAn GonzAlez, Mark Mateos, Jorge Casado, Alex FernAndez, Pedro Mosquera, JesA RodrAguez, Denis Cheryshev, Borja GarcAa and Alvaro Morata. Only 30" to the fit, MirandAs were currently terrorizing our defenders, especially through their #9 Alain, who was able to find herself before our type of defense at least twice within just two minutes. None the less, nothing arrived on the scene of it and it was just a great notice for the Whites. From the 4' on, as normal, Real Madrid Castilla started initially to strike and created some chances for themselves, through JesA, Morata and Borja, but nothing specially dangerous yet. We began to see some really nice complex things from Borja, Juanfran and JesA amongst others --I am mentioning them because their wing was before me-- but we were still lacking the perfection that could make our plays dangerous. Plus, MirandAs were defending in an exceedingly compact manner, making the motivation to Castilla of play building and waiting for to be able to counterattack. In the 12', Alain --or possibly Pablo, they're both bold :- )-- got an extremely strong chance but it was off-target. By the 17', we'd already observed Alex do his signature move a handful of times, wherein he basically gets out from the midfield with the ball and tries both a powerful chance right or to go to a teammate who's unmarked. Regrettably, nothing could happen in an objective yet. In the 19', Pablo beat Juanfran and found himself ready to score through a cross-shot however it went slightly out, luckily for all of us. I'm a huge fan of Juanfran's and I find that he has good vision, speed and technicall skills, but I have to acknowledge that I am not particularly a of seeing him as a RB. Not only is not it his most readily useful role in my opinion, but it is also a "waste" of his talent, so to speak, for the reason that he brings so much in offensive play making as a and he and Fabinho combine well. In the 34', Goitia dropped on the side so Juanfran, who was coming operating, gripped the ball and proceeded slaloming past three players at least, after which it he found Borja right in the middle, whose picture went. Irrespective of how beautiful it was, that play was crucial in that it gave us a large part and... A target! IvAn's header opened the report and gave Castilla the advantage: Real Madrid Castilla 1-0 MirandAs. Across the 40', a on Borja left our midfielder in pain for a good two minutes. He also had to leave the frequency for a couple moments. But he was back after all, even though at that time it got me thinking whether he was really fine or if he was only likely to complete the initial half as most readily useful as he can before being substituted at half-time. It would be nothing serious, as it turned out and he'd be straight back on the message. During the extra time, JesA found a lot of room facing him and jumped from the package with the ball to his feet. He instantly saw how most of the defenders were on Morata and sent an excellent pass towards Denis, but the Russian player couldn't manage it. He were able to keep the ball and aimed at the goal when he found himself capable to do so, but it was too late, the energy have been lost. And so both groups were fundamentally delivered back to the dressing rooms with the 1-0 rating. As you could have observed, I've not described a lot of the thing that was going on involving the 20' and the very first purpose, just because we'd not complete any play properly, we were really lacking concluding, because we were lacking detail inside our travels. I really do not know how many times JesA would be outstanding at catching the ball just to find yourself losing it (it'd go outside) on the very next overlook lack of precision. Same with Borja, who got told off by Toril when he failed to pass to an unmarked Morata. Truly, as I was watching JesA, I remembered what I'd just read from Rapha Varane's interview: the Frenchman said that the very best advice he received from Mourinho was to keep it simple, to do what he knows how to do and to do it well without extra material, to know when to keep it simple. And I thought that it could apply to JesA, that's so good and fast and spectacular, simply to push the show one step past an acceptable limit, so to speak, and wind up losing a perfectly good ball. A one-touch exchange is particularly remembered by me with Juanfran where in fact the person from the Canary Islands handed the ball back to the chief with a fancy back end rather than a good old fashioned move, and we lost the ball to a running MirandAs striker ready to attack our box. Anyway, the next half was a complete different story. I actually do not understand what Toril told the children during half-time, but they were fired by it up ok! In the 50', Morata obtained a peach of a from the left hand-side of the field into the right top corner of the goal. Alex helped him. And several minutes later, Borja added a third purpose to our linen by scoring with a powerful picture from the middle, aided by JesA. Real Madrid Castilla 3-0 MirandAs. In the 57', JesA were able to attract the defenders and the goalkeeper towards him, making Morata totally unmarked. The former proceeded delivering a pass for Morata to intercept and score, but Alvaro was a tad too late unfortunately. Great mix none the less. In the 61', Pablo --who had been providing Juanfran plenty of work the complete time-- tried his fortune from the wing right to the goal, but his shot was slightly off-target. I did so not feel nervous about this anymore, given the pillow we'd, but Toril sure was disappointed and started moving his hands down and up within an try to signal something! It was really a whole other Castilla that we were now viewing and that would pay off, once more in the 64', when Borja coupled with Alex in the midfield, before the ball was delivered to Morata. Our striker kept operating and did a beating three defenders --when he might have handed to Denis or JesA-- with your final shot that finished up in to the back of the web. True Madrid Castilla 4-0 MirandAs. In the 67', Toril produced his first sub: Borja off, Lucas on. JesA took Borja's location and Lucas took the best side. Well, since it was now a score banquet, Denis must be an integral part of it too! In the 68', he scored with a header, aided by Juanfran. True Madrid Castilla 5-0 MirandAs. In the 71', Toril made his second sub. Since Casemiro was sitting directly behind me (no kidding), JosA RodrAguez was given too: Mosquera to some playing time down, JosA Rguez on. And since it seemed very unlikely that it would all go wrong within the last few quarter-hour, Toril didn't waste time and gave another player some playing time: Denis off, A'scar Plano on. But there was virtually no time to reduce, because JesA still hadn't scored and that wasn't right! So in the 76', after a great play initiated by Juanfran and then Lucas, JesA won an apple of a goal herself after beating a defender in the field. True Madrid Castilla 6-0 MirandAs. In the 84', the party was just a little spoiled by a charge dedicated by Morata (handball in the field) and won by Iribas, however it did not really matter anymore... True Madrid Castilla 6-1 MirandAs. And that's how Real Madrid Castilla revealed a drastic change of attitude from the initial half to the next to be able to find yourself scoring 6 targets! Next week: Numancia. We'll quickly be posting our supreme quality photographs taken from the sideline. For now, we are maneuvering to the zona mixta to interview the participants. Stay tuned in!
