Why the Miz's Stock Is on the Rise

As the WWE Universe begins gearing up for WrestleMania XXIX, the performer with the most momentum going into the event can be summed up in one word.

After a bit of time away from the top of the mountain that is the WWE talent roster, the Miz seems poised to make a very big impact going forward after his win over Money in the Bank briefcase holder Dolph Ziggler on Raw.

With Ric Flair, the man Miz referred to as his "mentor" in a pre-match speech, in his corner, the former WWE champion defeated Ziggler with Flair's patented figure-four leglock.

After a run as WWE champion, the Miz seemed to lose his head of steam, falling back into midcard matches with competitors not yet at his level. But at 32 years of age, the Miz still has plenty of tread left on the tires. Yes, he fell from grace slightly after his run as WWE Champion, but he never completely left the public eye.

Let us not forget that he is a Triple Crown champion, winning the WWE championship, Intercontinental championship and tag team championship (three times). He also has two United States title reigns to his credit, not to mention being Mr. Money in the Bank 2010.

Always a cocky heel, he has never been far from the top of the ladder and has always competed with the top talents within the company. And ever since his face turn, the Miz seems more likely to do greater things going forward.

The company sorely needs another big face wrestler to compete on par with John Cena. Sure, guys like Sheamus, Ryback and Alberto Del Rio are fine for now, but all three are in line for heel turns in the future, so it may not be worth investing the time to push them even further into face roles.

With years of heel heat in his wake, it was a welcome change to see the Miz begin to embrace the fans' chants and take on a kinder but still intense demeanor. Now, with perennial crowd favorite Flair as his mentor (though it remains to be seen if this role will continue), the Miz is in a very firm spot and a very safe position within the hierarchy of the company ladder.

His win over Ziggler was somewhat surprising, given that Ziggler is essentially the No. 1 contender for a World title since he possesses the MITB briefcase. But Ziggler has struggled in recent weeks, and his loss to the Miz simply added another loss to the ones that had already been piling up.

However, there is major talk of Ziggler cashing in that briefcase at WrestleMania, and with a program between Del Rio and Jack Swagger expected to continue, that leaves Ziggler without a top-notch opponent to challenge him for his newly won title.

A program between Ziggler and the Miz could draw big numbers, especially if the company throws in a big swerve and has Flair turn on the Miz in the middle of the feud. It's likely the WWE Universe would solidly unite to support the Miz in that instance.

He also stars on the new WWE Films production The Marine 3: Homefront, and the company is sure to do major promotional work to hype the film.

While starring in a film didn't exactly launch Ted DiBiase's wrestling career, it certainly did wonders for perennial WWE savior John Cena.

Syracuse on to Final Four, beats Marquette 55-39

WASHINGTON (AP) — Using its trapping, shot-challenging 2-3 zone defense to perfect effect, No. 4-seeded Syracuse shut down No. 3 Marquette 55-39 in the East Regional final Saturday, reaching the Final Four for the first time in a decade.

Coach Jim Boeheim and the Orange (30-9) haven't been to the national semifinals since a freshman named Carmelo Anthony led them to the 2003 championship.

Fittingly, a matchup between schools from the soon-to-break-apart, rough-and-tumble Big East became quite a struggle to score. Syracuse was led by senior forward James Southerland's 16 points.

Marquette (26-9) hadn't scored fewer than 47 points this season. But with Syracuse playing Boeheim's beloved zone throughout, Marquette kept turning the ball over, seeing its shots blocked or just plain missing.

Strategy V Reading at Emirates Arena - LIVE - Arsenal World

Strategy V Reading at Emirates Ground - LIVE. Wenger has faith in under-fire Szczesny Strategy manager Arsene Wenger seems goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny should really be very happy with previously having made 100 first-team appearances - and recalled even popular number 1 David Seaman had his "blips." The Poland stopper hasn't presented for the past two matches ahead of the break, dropped for Lukasz Fabianski against Bayern Munich and then watching on from the table at Swansea, decisions which produced open responses from his father. The 22-year-old moved quickly to distance himself from that strong criticism of Wenger, insisting he was happy to fight for his place, having come through the Arsenal childhood program after joining from Legia Warsaw in 2006. Wenger has every assurance in Szczesny's long-term ability. "That (100 appearances) is just a huge credit to him, some thing positively great and shows he's an excellent future," Wenger said in a interview with Arsenal Player. "What is happening to him at the moment is just a regular process of any profession - we had (Jens) Lehmann, (David) Seaman, they had their blips and their intervals where they were less good, even when they were more capable than Wojciech." Wenger must decide whether to recall Szczesny for the visit of relegation-battlers Reading, but has drawn a line underneath the new variety strip. "I haven't spoken to him (about his father's comments), but I believe he responded perfectly. There is a not a many more to say," the Gunners boss told a news conference. "We are in a competitive world, he has played 100 games for this team and at his age that is absolutely amazing. "For the rest, we've ups and downs within our kind and we have to fight that, that's what he explained, basically. "Wojciech features a good future. He is a really young goalkeeper. Many goalkeepers were not found very by you at his age who've the knowledge he has already, that's why I think he's a fantastic future, but he lives in some sort of where competition exists." The Gunners is likely to be without England pair Jack Wilshere (leg) and Theo Walcott (hip/thigh). Midfielder Abou Diaby can be missing after being ruled out for nine months with anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left leg. Left-back Kieran Gibbs will soon be considered after being laid low by a disease, but striker Lukas Podolski (leg) and right-back Bacary Sagna (leg) must be available again. Meanwhile, former Arsenal goalkeeper Stuart Taylor is wanting to obtain the chance to shut-out his old team when Reading continue their relegation fight. Taylor, 32, got through the youth rates at Highbury, and made enough first-team performances to state a champion champions' honor in 2001/2002 and also was on the bench for the FA Cup final conquer Southampton at Wembley. However, after acquiring Lehmann and Manuel Almunia ahead of him, Taylor moved on to Aston Villa in 2005, where he'd also see options limited behind Scott Carson, Brad Friedel and then Brad Guzan. Following a mortgage cause at Cardiff and a move to Manchester City, where his only look was in a FA Cup tie against Scunthorpe, Taylor finished up signing a one-year cope with the Royals. Accidents to both first-choice Adam Federici and deputy Alex McCarthy intended Taylor has started the past three league games and he'd enjoy the opportunity to manage his old area in what will be new director Nigel Adkins' first match responsible. "I have not actually performed against Arsenal. It'd be described as a great experience to go back there - it's a great team, who I have very fond memories of," Taylor said in a interview with www.readingfc.co.uk. "It was an excellent place to be considered a player. The lovers were always great there - and it had been a real honor, to play with a few of the people that I did. "They had a number of actually world-class experienced players there at the time, amazing players each of them, and, as he still does, Arsene Wenger started initially to put in the kids in alongside them. "Arsene Wenger gave my opportunity to me and I will always be indebted to him for that. "Arsenal are going through somewhat of an alteration right now, however many of the participants they've coming through are excellent. "A year or two down the line I think you'll see these young players and the team as a whole become stronger. "When a handful of those young people have a bit more knowledge under their belts, that is when Arsenal will be a real force." New Royals director Nigel Adkins may have striker Pavel Pogrebnyak available again following a three-match suspension, while targeting midfielder Jimmy Kebe continues to fight against a crotch problem. Forward Jason Roberts (hip) remains sidelined.tbc Source: DSG

Swansea City compared to. Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs Retain Protected Critical 3 Details - Bleacher Report

Tottenham Hotspur got back for their winning ways with a 2-1 win over Swansea City on Saturday afternoon. Jan Vertonghen put Tottenham in the front after only eight minutes. Only under quarter of an hour later, Gareth Bale expanded Spurs' lead along with his 22nd goal of the season in team colors. Bale was right back at the Liberty Stadium only days after Wales dropped 2-1 to Croatia there. After the deficit was reduced by Swansea forward Michu on the 71st minute, the Welshman might have been concerned about losing another cause within an important match. Instead, Tottenham held onto secure three pointsa'a important win considering the day's activities elsewhere in the Premier League. Spurs' gain saw them climb backup to next in the table after Chelsea dropped to Southampton absent at St Mary's. Rafael Benitez's choice to make many changes before their FA Cup quarterfinal replay against Manchester United on Monday backfired, and he'll just take small comfort in perhaps not being the initial major side to fall prey to Mauricio Pochettino's giant-slayers in recent months. Strategy kept connected with both of the London competitors with a comfortable 4-1 win over Reading in the home. Although the Gunners remain four points behind Spurs, they (like Chelsea) still have a game in hand on Andre Villas-Boas' side. Villas-Boas will be satisfied with the way his group responded to three successive failures, but they will be seeking to refocus again quickly with a big week ahead. FC Basel visit White Hart Lane on Thursday night for the initial leg of the Europa League quarterfinal. Then a following Sunday, Everton get to North London for the first of three substantial group games for Spurs, with Chelsea and Manchester City following after that. Always check back on Bleacher Report later on Saturday for a far more step by step look at Spurs' victory over Swansea and what it means for them heading into the Basel sport.

Borg and Muster (past clay greats) on Nadal and the 2013 Golden Swing (Clay).

Borg, who is considered one of the mentally strongest players in tennis history, told ATPWorldTour.com, "You have to realise that to win on clay you will need to stay on court for many hours. So first of all you have to be really fit. When you are physically tired, you soon become mentally tired, and then you start to have trouble concentrating and begin to take risks. In the long run that always means losing matches."

"Tennis has missed Rafa and it will be interesting to see how he performs," Borg told ATPWorldTour.com. "I am sure he will be ready for the Golden Swing of tournaments."

"Nadal has dominated because he has incredible stamina, every shot in the book and because of the way he plays the angles of the court," Muster told ATPWorldTour.com. "To win on clay, you have to have fantastic endurance, be powerful and flexible, a complete player. I always thought you needed to be physically fit and have every shot. Nadal has that. In my mind, winning on clay was always the greatest test in tennis."

Owner Of Nightclub Charged In Assault Of Trent Williams

The man who assaulted Redskins left tackle Trent Williams in a Honolulu nightclub was the club's owner, Michael Miske Jr., police told Michael Tsai of the the Honolulu Star Adviser.

According to police, Miske struck Williams, who was in Hawaii for today's Pro Bowl, in the head with a dangerous instrument, reportedly a Champagne bottle, during an altercation. The incident took place at Miske's M Nightlife nightclub at Restaurant Row.

National Football League Security subsequently warned players to stay away from the nightclub "pending (the) outcome of a criminal investigation conducted by the Honolulu Police," according to NFL.com.

Miske, 38, was arrested Saturday at the Honolulu Police Department headquarters on Beretania Street and charged Sunday with second-degree assault. His bail was set at $250,000.

Miske, who is also the owner and president of Kamaaina Termite and Pest Control, has an extensive criminal history that includes 10 convictions, six for felonies, dating back to 1993.

In 1995, Miske was convicted of fraudulent use of a credit card and three counts of theft and was sentenced to 50 hours of community service and five years of probation, and was ordered to pay $5,300 in restitution.

Five months later, he was found guilty of kidnapping, felony attempted assault and speeding, and was sentenced to five years' probation, assessed a $105 fine and ordered to pay $625 in restitution.

In 2006, Miske was convicted of third-degree assault related to an altercation with a high school student and was sentenced to a year of probation. The student was also granted a petition for an injunction against harassment from Miske.

A Big Interim Mistake | Chelsea FC website & blog

The word 'interim' is one that many of us have not really been too familiar with, until this past year or so, where this word has become the bane of our lives as Chelsea supporters.

It started when Roberto Di Matteo was employed to succeed Andre Villas-Boas as Interim Manager mid-way through the season, and this particular decision seemed a genius one. As we all know Robbie went on to win the Champions League with his Chelsea side and we were all over the moon.

When Roman Abramovich and his advisors chose to appoint Di Matteo, it was on an interim contract, but it was emphasised then that there would be a view to extending his contract to permanent if he was successful, which he clearly was. So Robbie was rewarded with an extension and we were all happy.

Here is where the curse of the interim begins, Robbie's Chelsea side continued to struggle at the beginning of this season and apparently Roman's patience grew too thin after a loss of form and some questionable tactical decisions, so Robbie was out on his ear much to our dismay.

The next equation happened so fast that Robbie must have passed his successor whilst leaving the Stamford Bridge car park. Up steps former Liverpool Manager Rafael Benitez, thus sparking anger and disbelief from the Chelsea faithful. These supporters seemed to have longer serving memories than particular Board members.

First of all, Benitez was remembered as claiming in an interview that Chelsea supporters had no passion, amongst other claims. He had previously made his feelings clear about Chelsea football club, but now he was managing them.

The second major memory loss our board suffered, was the curse of the interim. They decided to appoint Benitez as an Interim Manager and made it clear it would indefinitely be until the end of the season and no longer. After the roller-coaster ride of appointing the last Interim Manager, hadn't they learnt their lesson? Di Matteo had a chance to stay on and showed the passion on desire, how is a former Liverpool Manager who had criticised Chelsea before hand, ever going to have his heart and soul in it?

An Interim Manager is a bad idea full stop. What made the Benitez hiring much worse than the Di Matteo saga, was the fact we all knew it was only until the end of this season. How on earth can players, staff, coaches and supporters bond with and get behind a coach who they know is leaving, not even taking into consideration the history of that Coach? It's a desperate decision for any board to make.

Players become attached to managers as they clearly did with Di Matteo and then they leave, it immensely decreases players and supporters morale, which is a really bad and dangerous situation. Many players won't admit it but as well as playing for the love of your club, you are also playing for the honour of your Manager.

I'm not debating Benitez as a Coach, yes he has won some trophies in his career and I know many people out there do rate his ability. My issue is the fact that he, the board and supporters, all knew that he was going at the end of the season and now when it seems there are only two real trophies to play for, our Interim Manager is clearly aiming for these trophies and ignoring Champions League football, which is a selfish and lame move.

Benitez knows he is leaving; he has a chance to add two more trophies to his CV before he leaves and he is pushing for that. For me, you must play your strongest team at this stage of the season when you are fighting for fourth in the league AKA a vital place in the Champions League. This decision should be irrelevant of other fixtures or busy schedules.

Today in our 2-1 loss at Southampton, we all witnessed Benitez pick more of the fringe players, a somewhat un-balanced midfield, a weak left side and a defensive partnership that has been solid in the past, but lacklustre recently. Not only that, when he had a chance to change the game at half time and take it to Southampton, he decided to wait to ring the changes and when they did come, on the whole they were confusing and the by far the wrong decisions.

We had an instant game changer sat on the bench in the shape of David Luiz and Juan Mata not even in the squad. Along with that we had Eden Hazard on the bench for the majority of the game whilst a very poor Victor Moses somehow managing to play a whole match. The John Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard combination in midfield was not working, yet he waited over 65 minutes to change that.

We face Manchester United on Monday in the FA Cup Quarter Final Replay and we all know that will be Benitez's first defence when explaining our loss at St Mary's. Although winning the FA Cup once again would be a great achievement and a good success, we all know that our priority should lie with nailing that final automatic Champions League spot. OK, so this loss does not mean we miss out yet, but it was absolutely vital that we got three points here; on paper it was one of our easier remaining fixtures with all due respect to Southampton.

Many people who read my articles will know that usually I am not a sceptic, I am normally the more positive of Chelsea supporters, I always back the players and the manager no matter what. But I am afraid this latest interim saga has forced me to admit that our current interim has made some very selfish decisions recently, especially against Southampton. Don't get me wrong, our players were very poor, we had a bad game and Southampton played well and deserved the victory; let's take nothing away from them. But in order to give us a chance of winning, we simply had to start our most prolific creators, Hazard and Mata. These guys are too dangerous and essential to rest at this stage of the season, as is David Luiz. Rotating at this stage is simply not an option, strongest side possible, period.

Champions League qualification means a financial injection, more appeal for possible new targets (essentially a prolific target man) and of course more appeal for a new Manager to come in. The last thing we need is another rushed and desperate appointment of the dreaded curse that is 'The Interim Manager'.

True Madrid Move News: Neymar, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, And Marco... - International Business Times

True Madrid may completely change its roster in the coming months, and the changes may possibly start with director Jose Mourinho. Los Blancos must deal with the growing odds of Mourinhoas travel at the end of the summer season. It seems the two-time Champions League champion is on his way out of the Bernabeu, with a feud with Madrid leader Florentino Perez, who apparently found Mourinhoas absence at the FIFA Ballon daOr service as disrespectful. He's been linked with former club Chelsea, along with Inter Milan, Manchester City and Paris-St. Germain, and according to The Guardian, while he is still centered on the rest of Madridas time, a return to England appears natural. "To be in London is a very regular issue for us," the 50-year-old coach thought to Sky Sports News. "Every time I come, people start immediately to make the contacts that I'll return. I fuel it a bit. I say every day it is loved by me here, I'd an excellent time here, I will reunite one day, so to be good I contribute to that speculation. "( However), at the end of the time I am in Madrid, I'm very committed for the membership for the rest of the period. We are within the last few eight of the Champions League. We have a [Spanish Cup] final to play against AtlAtico Madrid. Those who know me, know that I am at and professional this moment I only consider my job in Real." Whether he returns or not, Los Blancos have already been connected to many big moves which could change the entire landscapre of the crime, starting with Brazilian Neymar and Man Cityas Sergio Aguero. The 21-year-old Santos striker was estimated a week ago saying, aI desire playing for a large club like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea.a Neymar did emphasize his respect for Barcelonaas Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernndez, and based on the Daily Mail, the Nou Camp includes a apre-contract agreementa with the player which means he'd join the Catalans after the 2014 World Cup or face a stiff financial penalty if he signs elsewhere. Nevertheless the fact that Los Blancos are on the electric scoreras short list of desirable groups is a good indication, while his market value, hovering around A44 million, isnat uncommon. Since 2009, Neymar has totaled 54 targets for Santos, and integrating him with Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi may strike fear in the minds of clubs all over the world. They've other options to reload its attack around Ronaldo, even if Madrid doesnat land the once in an era player. Frenchman Karim Benzema and Argentinean Gonzalo Higuan were apparently agreed to Man City in exchange for Aguero, in line with the Daily Star. The Staras survey featured Agueroas disenfranchisement with Manchester together of the causes he might welcome a return to the Primera Division. Formerly with Atletico Madrid for five years, the 24-year-old striker totaled 100 goals in all competitions before leaving to the English Premier League in 2011. Like with Neymar, Madrid will need to compete with Barcelona for Agueroas companies. His economy price sits around A39.5 million. If the Catalans also swoop in on Aguero, Madrid could land negative Man City midfielder Yaya Toure, who's in the midst of an awful, extended contract settlement. His agent was quoted saying the Ivorian can leave in-may unless he's a fresh agreement by the conclusion of the week, as reported by The Sun. The 29-year-old, weekly already making a club-high A220,000, reportedly has said it's not about money, but instead deficiencies in respect round the club staff from everyone except director Roberto Mancini. Toure is technically under contract until 2015, but could enact a FIFA rule that states unless a new deal is signed by a player by the end of the third year of his existing contract, they are able to buy out the remaining amount and move on. Then there is PSG midfielder Marco Verratti, who continues to impress in his first year at Parc des Princes. Madrid considers Verratti as an replacement Xabi Alonso, according to Talk Sport. The Italian has notched four assists in 26 complete looks for PSG, and has received interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, in addition to Los Blancos.

Manchester United locked in battle with Arsenal for 'next Michael Ballack' - Express.co.uk

Midfielder Leon Goretzka has piqued the interest of both clubs along with a clutch of top European clubs including Juventus and Real Madrid.

United are seeking to improve their midfield and as we reported yesterday, Sir Alex Ferguson is planning a £60m clear out of players in the summer.

Arsenal in the meantime, have an abundance of flair players with the likes of Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta but are in desperate need of some steel in the middle of the park.

Italian football website Calciomercato speaks of Goretzka in glowing terms and believes he could be ready to make the next step up in his career.

They also note that the current economic malaise in Italian football may not be conducive for Juventus to make a move for Goretzka, especially as they are readying a bid for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

MLB Trade Scenarios: Hot Names to Watch Leading Up to Opening Day

While they aren't the July trade deadline or the winter meetings, the final days of spring training are also a time for trade activity throughout the league, as teams put the finishing touches on their rosters.

This is not a time for superstar players to be on the move. However, those who are out of options and unlikely to make their respective roster or veterans who have been beaten out for a job are another story.

Last offseason, the Rockies signed veteran catcher Ramon Hernandez to a two-year, $6.4 million deal to help bridge the gap to prospect Wilin Rosario.

However, Rosario stepped forward sooner than expected and launched 28 home runs in 396 at-bats last season to finish fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting.

Yorvit Torrealba appears to be the team's choice to backup Rosario this season, and according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, that will make Hernandez a candidate to be traded or perhaps even released.

With the offseason additions of Drew Stubbs and Michael Bourn, and with non-roster invitees Scott Kazmir and Ryan Raburn slated to make the 25-man roster, Ezequiel Carrera is clearly the odd man out on the Indians bench.

According to Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer, both Carrera and Huff have been informed that they won't make the team and the Indians will look to trade them.

Carrera hit .272/.312/.395 with eight steals in 147 at-bats last season, while Huff has a 5.30 ERA over 55 career appearances (52 starts) and had a 5.82 ERA this spring.

With their offseason signings of Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu, the Dodgers have an abundance of starting pitching. That depth doesn't necessarily mean they have to trade someone, as they already need another arm with Zack Greinke battling elbow inflammation.

As it stands, Ted Lilly and Aaron Harang are slated to open the season in the bullpen with Chris Capuano filling in for Greinke in the bullpen.

According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, Harang, Capuano, Lilly and veteran reliever Matt Guerrier are all on the block and it seems likely that the team will move at least one pitcher before the season opens or shortly thereafter.

The Tigers' No. 5 starter job in Detroit was a solid battle this spring between Rick Porcello and Drew Smyly, and while it appears the team will go with Porcello in the rotation and Smyly as an insurance option, both pitchers would net a solid return (via Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com).

After the Angels found a way to move Vernon Wells to the Yankees, the possibility remains that Alfonso Soriano could be moved. The Cubs were willing to take on $26 of the $36 million remaining on his contract over the spring and they may be a key injury away from finding someone willing to pay that (via Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com).

Among other players out of options, Joey Novak of MLB.com lists Mariners outfielder Casper Wells, Rangers outfielder Julio Borbon, Blue Jays left-hander Brett Cecil, Orioles right-hander Tommy Hunter and Pirates outfielder Jose Tabata as guys who could potentially be on the move.

Sir Alex Ferguson 'stunned' at how quickly Manchester United have cruised... - Metro

Sir Alex Ferguson says he's surprised at how easily Manchester United have cruised towards the Premier League title. United have a huge 15-point advantage towards the top of the dining table and require only 13 points from their last seven suits to recover the Premier League from opponents Manchester City. A win over Sunderland on Saturday could go some way towards that, before City try the field against Newcastle later in the afternoon helping United to an 18-point edge. However for Ferguson, long lasting result, he is still shocked at how quickly United have been able to distance themself from their opponents. aI expected it to be really right,a said Ferguson. aWith Manchester City coming on the scene in the last couple of years and Chelsea and Arsenal and Tottenham, you've teams competing for that top-four position. aThe first position was that, after last period, we wanted to ensure we didnat lose it on aim difference, and that has increased substantially. aBut I never thought we would be 15 points clear at this stage of the season.a The huge guide gives a healthy edge to United going into a mad period of suits, with Fergusonas side facing Chelsea on Bank Holiday Monday, two days after the Sunderland sport, then hosting City 1 week later. United know they need to keep a good balance of people to challenge on all fronts and Ferguson says he will be checking just how much they play throughout the break, with rotation in your mind. aOnce I know how many minutes each player has played, I will begin to think of my team for Saturday,a he added. aI have to make sure I have some quality in the team because we also have Chelsea on Monday lunchtime. aIt is really a big require our squad and something we need to concentrate on because I need to make sure I pick the right team.a

Borussia Dortmund Spark Curiosity about Manchester Town Striker Edin Dzeko - SWOL

The summer is rapidly approaching and Manchester Cityas concept hopes, like Borussia Dortmundas, are typical but gone. AAccording to Sunlight, the German leaders are apparently enthusiastic about Manchester City frontman Edin Dzeko. The 27-year-old striker has faced constant pressure at City this year, with a tough striking fight following to get into Roberto Mancinias starting XI on a weekly basis. AWith both Sergio aKuna Aguero and Carlos Tevez both stealing the spotlight, the Bosnian has unfortuitously been forced to feature in several cameo appearances throughout the year. Dzeko will find additional playing time elsewhere as Dortmund are raising their curiosity about theAA27 million striker. His interest was recently stated by ageneral manager Michael Zorc in the striker, but only for the proper value (via Sunlight ): He is a great forward and a person one should be interested in. AHowever, there is also still somewhat of a financial factor. Because Dzeko is under contract at Manchester City beyond the end of the season ait will be right down to pure maths. It's likely that the Citizensa selling price for the Bosnian might be astronomical; but, as Robert Lewandowskias potential continues to stay uncertain, getting one more striker could quickly reinforce the stunning ability of the club. Though failing woefully to feature in an everyday beginning role for the Citizens this season, Dzeko really has proven he can add to his tally with 12 goals currently in the EPL. If Lewandowski is always to move on from Dortmund, the current City talisman might replace the Poland international properly. ABoth Lewandowski and Dzeko are high strikers who get excellent aerial capacity at both ends of the message, as well as stand solid on the ball to produce play with onrushing teammates. The top-class strikeras future is up in the air much like many people in similar jobs. ADzeko has proved dangerous in 2010, yet remains to see minimal minutes. AFurthermore, he could make any director happy and might just find his normal place in the beginning XI back in the Bundesliga where his career became popular in the very first place.

Kansas races previous South Carolina 75-69

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) a The Kansas Jayhawks are not about to complain about their No. 12 seeding. After all, they realize they were likely the last at-large group to help make the women's NCAA tournament after losing seven of the last 11 games. They are willing, but, to demonstrate that they're not your typical 12th seed. The Jayhawks (20-13) were the ones chanting "Sweet 16!" for the 2nd straight time Monday evening after elderly Monica Engelman scored a career-high 27 factors in a upset of fourth-seeded Sc. Kansas became just the 2nd No. 12 seed to advance to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament, joining San Francisco Bay Area in 1996 whilst the only No. 12 seeds to check out up a gain in the opening round with another in the next. No. 12 seeds are 2-15 in the second round considering that the women's area was extended to 64 groups in 1994. The Jayhawks moved on to Norfolk, Va., where they will play the winner of Tuesday's sport between Notre Dame and Iowa in the regional semifinals Sunday. Engelman's past career most readily useful was 26 points set last month against TCU. "For me, Angel made it easy," Engelman said of teammate Angel Goodrich. "I mean, she is a fantastic point guard, so she makes everyone else desire to sprint up the floor she may push the ball and get simple containers in transition." Goodrich's rate allowed the Jayhawks to drive the speed much faster compared to the Gamecocks found comfortable. "That is what we wished to do, we desire to control the tempo," Goodrich said. "When we run we have fun. We wished to catch them off balance, catch them when they're not ready, because when they set up, they are really good." Points were added 20 by goodrich to choose her nine assists. Fourth-seeded Sc (25-8) was denied its 26th gain, which would have been the program's most since joining the Southeastern Conference in 1991-92. "It was a hard-fought, real game," Sc forward Aleighsa Welch said. "It was really an and down tempo." That is perhaps not the Gamecocks' type. They quit only 49.5 points a game title and Kansas nearly had that by halftime. "I told our team at the half, 'We quit 32 items in whole games,'" Sc coach Dawn Staley said. "The pace of the overall game was not our pace. They made us play only a little quicker. I thought we were fairly reliable on the ground offensively, however in order for all of us to stay in basketball games, we've to regulate games from a defensive standpoint, and we did not do that." Staley said having Sancheon White, her most useful defense, perform just 8 minutes in the very first half due to foul trouble was a big section of Engelman's big night. "It was her defensive assignment. We're able to have used her speed, but when you're playing two freshmen (Khadijah Sessions and Tiffany Mitchell) in a large game similar to this, it is very hard to question them to accomplish things they've not done," Staley said. "She was hot. When a person gets going like that, it's difficult to stop." The first meeting between your two schools was an immediate classic, a one-possession game in the last 30 seconds even though South Carolina didn't report again after Ashley Bruner's ocean with 2:52 left tied it at 69. Offensive boards were grabbed 26 by the Gamecocks, a school record for an game, and they had three players post double-doubles. Welch and Bruner scored 16 factors each and pulled down 11 and 12 rebounds, respectively. Elem Ibiam also had a double-double for Sc with 12 items and 10 boards. Yet it's Kansas, which has won four straight games at the Coors Events Center, that's time for the round of 16 after getting there last year as an 11th seed. Iowa got an important scare when heart Carolyn Davis limped off the court, favoring her left leg, after picking right up her fourth foul with 6:40 left. A trainer shot to popularity the support that protects the leg she injured last year, forcing the NCAA tournament to be missed by her. Welch sank both free throws to tie it at 65. "It is definitely a scare to see somebody drop and when I looked over her, she kind of just held her knee and I was just kind of like, 'Dang'! I did not know what to believe, really," Goodrich said. "But on her behalf to obtain up and stand up, it relieved me a little bit. "When that occurs, you've got to keep composed and think we have still got time on the time, we've still got a casino game to complete. But I am glad she got back up and she got back in the game and she did what she had a need to do." It was 67-all when Davis returned with 3:50 remaining. She rapidly rejected Bruner's jumper, and her bucket with 2:30 remaining put Kansas ahead for good at 71-69. A 3-pointer for South Carolina that would have tied at 72 it with less than a half-minute was missed by iseasia Walker remaining and Kansas sealed the gain at the free throw line. What Happened Last Night: Florida Gulf Coast Shocks Georgetown, La Salle Upsets Kansas State

Yeah, like there's any chance I'm not just going to write about March Madness this morning. As much as some NBA things did happen last night (Miami keeps rolling, Lakers lose to freaking Washington), it's March Madness, baby (© Dick Vitale). And since it is March Madness, of course there were two huge upsets to get this tournament started.

Allen Iverson isn't walking through that door. Neither are 'Zo, Ewing, Dikembe, or even Jahidi White. No. 2-ranked Georgetown became just the seventh no. 2 seed to lose to a no. 15 seed Friday as Florida Gulf Coast shocked the Hoyas with a 78-68 victory to advance to the next round of the NCAA tournament.

FGC guards Sherwood Brown and Bernard Thompson combined for 47 points to lead the Eagles' offensive attack that saw that shoot 44 free throws to Georgetown's 20. FGC also held the Hoyas to just .375 shooting from the floor en route to victory. Georgetown was led by Markel Starks with 23 points in defeat.

It was a tale of two halves. La Salle dominated the first half, Kansas State dominated the second half, but the lower-ranked Explorers managed to pull out the victory in the end, squeaking by KSU 63-61 for the upset.

Free throw shooting was the difference in this one, as K-State went just 9-17 from the charity stripe while La Salle shot 14-16 to take the victory. Both teams had similar field goal shooting, rebounding, and turnover numbers, but the discrepancy at the line proved to be the deciding factor. Leading the way for the Explorers was Jerelle Wright with 21 points on 6-6 shooting from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line. Kansas State led by Jordan Henriquez and Shane Southwell, each with 17 points on 7-10 shooting.

Did Birmingham City Overreact To E-Cigarette Consumer? - talkSPORT.co.uk

Tuesday, March 26, 2013 It is perhaps not uncommon for football clubs to remove unruly fans, and also postpone or take time tickets in cases of excessively poor behaviour, like throwing items onto the message, acting unruly in the stands, or constant usage of bad or abusive language. Nevertheless, itas been noted that Manchester City has brought away the growing season ticket of one of these loyal supporters for something apparently innocuous: utilizing an e-cigarette. Did they overreact? Based on numerous reports, the soccer fan in question was enjoying a glass or two with friends in the concourse when he took a draw from his ecigarette device. Safety instantly greeted him and escorted him right into a room where he was questioned and told that vaping on the grounds was not allowed. Protection then seized his season ticket and escorted them from the stadium. A letter was later the fan received by days from Cityas head of security, He was informed by Peter Fletcher who informed his season ticket was henceforth suspended except an acceptable explanation could be provided. Fletcher wrote: "This is really a restricted item as mentioned in the terms and conditions of one's season ticket. I have now suspended your year ticket pending any description that you could desire to provide. Any representations you might desire to make must be in writing." Considering that the story broke some months before there have been several questions raised about when dealing with the e-cig using fan if Fletcher used wise practice. Those who agree with Fletcher's decision point out that the language banning electronic cigarettes in the ground is clearly spelled out. They say the lover is being appropriately punished for doing an activity that some people find unpleasant. On one other side of the cash you can find those who believe the actions of Fletcher and his security team were at the very least an overreaction, or even pretty heavy-handed as well. They say when compared with a number of the other activities that get on at City activities, employing a Vapestick ecigarette on the concourse is relatively moderate. Possibly an initial warning may have been more appropriate than what really happened. Maybe a better solution to handle the problem would have been for the security staff to deal with the lover by saying something such as, "you're prohibited to use your electroniccigarette here; please put it away." Had the fan continued vaping out of plain belligerence then there might have been some reason for further action. But, by all accounts, no resistance was offered by the fan at all. One of many more interesting facets of this history must do with the different criteria being practiced by different baseball clubs. While the utilization of electronic cigarettes isn't permitted at Manchester City, other clubs, like Burnley, are freely embracing the cigarette option. In when it can perhaps work out a proper deal with an e-cig company, fact, that group may even wind up selling e-cigarettes printed with its name. Basketball groups that are enjoying e-cigarettes are this with the data that a lot of their supporters are smokers who are limiting their amount of time in the arenas because of restricted smoking restrictions. If marketing e-cigarettes will get these supporters back to spending money and games on other activities like food and drinks, it seems like an advisable thing to do. Increase that the marketing funds that teams could earn through deals or sponsorships with e-cig manufacturers and all of it begins to produce common sense. When all is said and done, every soccer club has got the right to figure out what will or won't be granted of their facilities. Regrettably, in cases like this it did not work-out too well for the Manchester City fan in question. Perhaps in future, steps may be taken to ensure incidents such as this are treated with a little more wise practice.

He was once most of the rage: Now Wayne Rooney (and his baggage) stands at... - Mirror.co.uk

Probably itas because what happened to Michael Owen is fresh within our minds. Perhaps itas because we saw him burn so glaringly and then disappear. Probably itas since some harbour a nagging concern that itas occurring again. Maybe itas because thereas a fear that history is all about to repeat itself in the form of Wayne Rooney. Regardless of the reasons, Rooney can stay at a when he walks out at the Town Stadium here tomorrow night for Englandas emergency World Cup qualifier with Montenegro. He is 27 years of age, entering what must be the prime of his career, and yet doubts swirl around him. He has been replaced by Robin van Persie because the golden one at Manchester United. And Sir Alex Fergusonas choice to drop him for the game against Real Madrid early in the day this month was not as big a surprise because it once could have been. It used rumours that Ferguson has lost patience with Rooney and is considering trying to sell him at the conclusion of the summer season. Owenas career was cut short by his fragile human anatomy. Rooney can be an ox of a guy but his fragility lies in his disposition. And so the match against Montenegro, the tie that holds the important thing to Englandas diploma for next yearas World Cup, comes at a crucial amount of time in Rooneyas profession. It is a fit where he can show that he can continue steadily to flourish, not disappear. And if he can help lead the team to an optimistic result, it is a fit that can enable him to start out dreaming about creating a important effect at the tournament in Brazil. To begin with, he must hold his discipline. The pictures of what happened the final time he enjoyed here still remain. The ball bouncing off him as he tries to control a cross nearby the halfway line. Miodrag Dzudovic Rooney hustling him, getting person and tugging at him. Giving Dzudovic a large and Rooney losing his temper kick to the back of the leg. Dzudovic going down. Rooney knowing straight away whatas coming. The umpire getting out his red card. That dismissal gained Rooney a two-match bar and he missed Englandas beginning games at Euro 2012. Off grid: England's Wayne Rooney (C) is given a red card through the Euro 2012 group G qualifying football match Montenegro vs England in Podgorica Getty When he did finally look at the competition, after an ill-judged summer vacation in Nevada, he never appeared properly fit healthy. If he can steer clear of the self-destruct switch, though, there's no reasons why he shouldn't remain Englandas most critical person. That's partly what has cost him in the past. That and simple bad luck. Injury ruined his 2006 World Cup and likely Acontributed to his problem this year, too. Nevertheless the repeated criticism that he has never quite lived up to the stellar starting to his job at Euro 2004 doesnat bunch up. He has obtained 34 objectives for his country now and if he stays clear of the incidents that blighted Owenas career, he will surely break Sir Bobby Charltonas England scoring record. He has performed in three finals and won the Champions League with United. He's got four Premier League winnersa medals and is about to obtain a fifth. All but the harshest critics would have to accept that he's already had a fantastic career. He suffers, of course, when comparing to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. But are those comparisons actually fair? Rooneyas talent might not be as extravagant as Messias or ARonaldoas but he's an alternative type of player. In many ways, in reality, he's the best team player. Match after match, his own talent is sacrificed by him for the good of the medial side. He'll perform on the left side of midfield when Ferguson requires him to, although many feel it's a waste of his ability. He was Ronaldoas workhorse when the two men played at Old Trafford together and now he's getting Van Persieas also. He shouldn't be denigrated for that, though. He ought to be praised for it. Particularly when he has this kind of wonderful scoring record for club and country. There is no place drawing any broader conclusions about Englandas leads from their mauling of San Marino on Friday evening. But Rooney was Englandas most readily useful person in the 8-0 gain, dropping deeply, spraying luxurious moves round the message, working hard, rating an excellent free-kick. There is no reason why he shouldn't be as significant tomorrow night in the hostile atmosphere of the Town Stadium. He is still Englandas stand-out adversary, still the person effective at turning the overall game with an outstanding move or a spectacular target. He has not suffered the kind of incidents that Owen suffered. Control, on and off the subject, is his Achilles heel. If he can grasp that, he can function as man not just who makes the difference against Montenegro but who makes an effect at an important contest for the first time in a decade. Our love for him was once, like Buddy Holly sang, abigger compared to the Cadillaca. Beginning tomorrow night, itas time and energy to discover whether that love will get back, maybe not fade. Fulham Join The Race For West Ham Target Wilfried Bony by Charlie Yaxley ... - caughtoffside

The striker has been putting in some impressive displays in the Dutch Eredivisie and reports in recent days had suggested that West Ham were close to securing a deal for the Vitesse Arnhem striker.

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan had suggested the club were about to smash their transfer record, set just last year when they splashed £11 million on winger Matt Jarvis.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is keen to bring in attacking reinforcements as West Ham have the fourth worst goal-scoring record in the Premier League this season, managing a paltry 32 goals in 29 league games.

To make matters worse, Andy Carroll's loan deal from Liverpool expires at the end of the season and the Anfield club are likely to demand a significant transfer fee to make the deal permanent.

But sources from Vitesse are emerging saying that the East London club are not the only Premier League side interested in Bony, who has scored 26 goals in just 24 games for the Dutch side.

Fulham are reportedly also preparing a bid for the player and Martin Jol is set to use his contacts in Holland to steal a march on the Hammers for the player's signature.

James Perch: Newcastle United's French legion will get derby 'education' - Journal Live

NEWCASTLE United's French foreign legion will be given a crash course in derby history to prepare them for the "unique" atmosphere of a Tyne-Wear tussle.

United will hope to take care of European business before moving to domestic matters but the derby game looms large over the horizon for both teams in their April programme.

And James Perch says that United's crop of derby debutants – which could number five if Mathieu Debuchy and Massaido Haïdara recover from injury in time – will be fully briefed before they take on Sunderland in their "biggest game of the season".

Perch appeared in the last derby game at the Stadium of Light and acknowledges that it would be folly to send Moussa Sissoko, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Haïdara, Youan Gouffran and Debuchy into the match without some sort of warning about what the game will entail.

In previous years the Newcastle management have tried different techniques to prepare their team for the game, including staying overnight in a hotel last year and a video montage in previous years. Perch is sure that Alan Pardew and the rest of the coaching team will have something similar in mind this year.

"The staff, the manager will let them know the importance of it and what it's all about. They've played in derbies but I don't think it will be the same. This is unique.

"I have played in the Nottingham Forest-Notts County derby game, which is big in that part of the Midlands but it doesn't get anywhere close to this one.

"They aren't stupid, they are experienced players so they know what rivalries are all about but sometimes you just need to be given advice and things to look out for.

"The management here have always done that really well – they've prepared us brilliantly for these derby games and they'll do it again.

the game, we take a bit more time leading up to that game than we do to others, which is understandable as it's our biggest game of the season.

"I've only played in one – I came on this year at Sunderland and loved it. It's a brilliant atmosphere, tackles are flying – I love it."

First up for Perch and United is the small matter of a trip to Manchester City, which arrives with Newcastle far from safe in their battle to retain Premier League status. They should have Tim Krul back, however, with the Dutch goalkeeper returning to training yesterday in a bid to win back his place for the run-in.

Keeping the defence together will be key to progress at home and abroad, where Newcastle stand on the verge of a record if they keep another clean sheet in the Europa League tie in Lisbon.

So far they have shut out Anzhi and Metalist Kharkiv and they know that another shut-out would be a modern record. Perch said: "It would be amazing to get the record.

"We've had some good results, played against some good teams and got through to a stage where it's very serious now. I'm delighted we're somewhere where a lot of fans can go. I'm sure we'll take more than a few supporters."

Sir Alex Ferguson admits surprise at Manchester United's 15-point advantage - The Independent

Sir Alex Ferguson is shocked Manchester United are 15 details clear in the Premier League subject race. Subsequent Manchester City's decline at Everton just before the international break, United need only 13 more points from their remaining nine games to clinch a record 20th championship. They may not even need that many given City visit Old Trafford on April 8, and the feeling is Ferguson has already set his sights on eclipsing United's record 18-point winning margin from 2000. It's truly been the most effective recovery from having the concept snatched from their knowledge by Sergio Aguero with virtually the very last end of the prior plan. And one which Ferguson did not expect. "With Manchester City coming on the scene within the last few year or two and Chelsea and Arsenal and Tottenham, you have groups vying for that top-four position," Ferguson told Sirius XM. "I expected it to be really limited. "The first position was that after last time, we desired to make sure on goal difference it was not lost by us, and that has increased significantly. "But I never chose to be 15 points clear during this period of the season." It has given some flexibility to Ferguson with his choices within the Easter weekend, when United are pitched in to two important activities in the room of 48 hours. Subsequent Saturday's lunch visit to Sunderland - which could move United 18 points obvious given City aren't in action until slightly later - the Red Devils should prepare for Monday's FA Cup quarter-final replay with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. As one of the participants not being troubled by international duty, Rio Ferdinand can get significant involvement following his controversial trip to Qatar, although Ryan Giggs, Nemanja Vidic and Anderson must also be clean. "Every instructor is praying that their participants return fit," said Ferguson. "They played last Friday and they're playing today. Once I know later tonite how many minutes each player has played, I'll start to consider my group for Saturday. "I have to ensure I've some quality in the group because we also have Chelsea on Monday lunch. "It is just a big request our squad and anything we need to focus on because I need to make sure I find the right teams." Meanwhile, Ferguson has reiterated his declare that Paul Gascoigne is the person he most regrets missing out on. Gascoigne is attempting to piece his life back together after another episode of drinking that left many of his friends fearing for his future. No-one knows what could have occurred had Gascoigne chosen to become listed on United rather than Tottenham when he'd the chance in 1988. But the charismatic former England midfielder wishes his life had taken an alternative path, and so does Ferguson. "I have always said when Paul Gascoigne thought we would visit Tottenham before Manchester United it was a big mistake," he said. "He often regretted that. "He was an excellent footballer. He was the very best player England produced because the days of Bobby Charlton." Pennsylvania

West Ham and Fulham in battle for £15m-rated striker Wilfried Bony - The Independent

It is understood that the Hammers, buoyed this week by the announcement that they will become the tenants of the Olympic Stadium, are prepared to smash the club record £11m they paid for Matt Jarvis last year in order to sign a forward for next season.

And it is the Vitesse Arnhem front man who is thought to top their wish list, with The Evening Standard reporting that a club source confirmed the 24-year-old is one player under consideration. Manager Sam Allardyce has prioritised a striker for next season.

The source also revealed that "five other Premier League clubs" are looking at the striker, including Fulham. The Dutch club want £15m for Bony, who has scored 26 goals in 24 league games this season.

West Ham have the fourth worst goal-scoring record in the Premier League this season, with just 32 goals in 29 games. Captain Kevin Nolan remains the leading scorer with six goals.

Allardyce, meanwhile, could sign a new deal as early as next month, providing the club ensure their safety in the Premier League.

There have been rumours that Harry Redknapp could return as manager next season should Queens Park Rangers be relegated and much may depend on Allardyce's demands when talks begin on a new deal. It is understood, though, that the Hammers are optimistic that Allardyce will stay.

NCAA Match 2013 Bracket: Underdogs Prepared to Pull Off Upsets in Circular of 32

If your class lasted a severe round of 64 of the 2013 NCAA tournament, don't breathe easy quite yet. The problems are not over. Certain it's fun to create fun of the man that had Georgetown or New Mexico winning it all. Making fun of others' supports may be the whole position of March Madness. But don't laugh too much, you're championship pick might be next. It is that nobody is safe if we learned anything from the problems of tournament favorites like Georgetown or New Mexico. As the opposition ramps up and underdogs get even more confidence, more big names may fall. Here are the underdogs that are ready to force their run to the lovely sixteen by slaying a contest giant. No. 9 Wichita State Harry How/Getty Photographs Opponent: No. 1 Gonzaga When: Saturday, March 23, 8:40 p.m. ET Watch: TNT A No. 9 seed whipping an No. 8 seed is seldom considered an upset, however when Wichita State took it to Pitt it felt just like the term used. The Panthers were a good team from a meeting and the Shockers walked right through them. They cruised to an 18-point success despite shooting just ten percent from beyond the arc (2-for-20). Gonzaga, on the other hand, seemed more sluggish than any other No. 1 seed in the tournament. They took care of company down the stretch, but were forced by the lowly Southern Jaguars in the round of 64. If Wichita State may take closer to their average of 33 percent from distance, the Bulldogs will be the first one-seed to go home. No. 8 North Carolina Jamie Squire/Getty Photos Opponent: No. 1 Kansas When: Sunday, March 24, 5:15 p.m. ET Watch: CBS If Gonzaga becomes the initial one-seed expunged it'll perhaps not be alone for long. The Kansas Jayhawks might easily be joining them. The Tar Heels were burning inside their round of 64 matchup with Villanova. They combined to take more than 50 percent from three-point length at 11-for-21. P.J. Hairston showed that he is able to dominate a game and carry his staff down the stretch. Three-point firing and having a go-to guy will soon be big against Kansas. Their vulnerability was shown by the Jayhawks in a close call against Western Kentucky. The 16-seededAHilltoppers light emitting diode Kansas at halftime in their round of 64 game. Considering the ability on North Carolina's list, it is a hardcore game for Kansas to be up against this early in the event. If it comes out in a decline like it did against Western Kentucky, UNC gets the personnel to place the overall game out of reach. No. 15 Texas Gulf Coast Rob Carr/Getty Photos Opponent: No. 7 North Park State When: Sunday, March 24, 7:10 p.m. ET Watch: TBS Once they toppled Otto Porter, Jr the Eagles pulled off the largest upset in the round of 64. and the Georgetown Hoyas. Do not call it a fluke nevertheless. Florida Gulf Coast is one of many several groups that can maintain that they defeat two of the No. 2 seeds in the field this year. They beat the Miami Hurricanes back November by 12 points. Keeping Georgetown to 22 points in the first half revealed that the Eagles have the defensive acuity to help keep teams off the scoreboard. Their 54-point 2nd half showed they will get buckets when they need them. It was not like they needed a last-second shot to win the game; They beat Georgetown by 10 points. Manchester United Send Scouts To Monitor Stoke City Keeper Asmir ...

Manchester United have sent a team of scouts to monitor the progress of Stoke's Asmir Begovic according to The Daily Mail.

The goalkeeper is currently on international duty with Bosnia and played in his country's international fixture with Greece on Friday.

The Premier League leaders are considering a summer bid for the stopper and sent over scouts to report back on the player's performance.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer to provide competition for Spanish youngster David De Gea. While the Old Trafford number one has been in good form in recent weeks, there remain questions over the player's aerial ability.

Anders Lindegaard looks set to leave the club this summer in search of first-team football and Fergie is keen to bring in a top quality replacement that can challenge De Gea for a first-team place.

United are likely to face competition for Begovic's signature though as a number of Premier League clubs are reported to be interested in the player.

Arsenal are also on the look-out for a goalie to provide competition to Polish stopper Wojciech Szczesny while Chelsea are in need of a back-up for Peter Cech with Thibault Courtois set to remain at Atletico Madrid for another year.

Arsenal Captain Says He Deserved To Be Dropped - The Hard Tackle

Arsenal FC skipper Thomas Vermaelen has accepted that he deserved to be dropped from the line-up owing to the mistakes he has made this season.

The 27-year-old has been far from his best this season and it seems like the pressure of captaincy has affected his performance on the field. The Belgium international was handed over the arm-band after Robin van Persie left the club at the start of this season, but reports suggest that Wenger is already looking to replace him as the skipper of the side by handing over the responsibility to Jack Wilshere next season.

Vermaelen was dropped from the starting line-up in Arsenal's last two gamex – against Bayern Munich and Swansea – with Koscielny partnering Mertesacker in the center of defence. More worryingly for Vermaelen, the fact that Arsenal have managed to keep two clean sheets in these two matches indicates that he will find it hard to get back into the starting eleven any time soon.

The former Ajax man is however determined to win back his spot in the team and has vowed to come back stronger. Vermaelen, in an interview, has accepted that he deserved to be dropped from the starting eleven based on his error prone performances off-late. He also accepts that at a big club like Arsenal, no one is guaranteed a place as there is a lot of competition in the squad.

'If I played flawlessly in all the matches I would be Lionel Messi. As a footballer you know you what may happen when you play badly.

'I'm not worried though – it's only the last games, I have played about 35 times this season. This is Arsenal, they are not a bad team and there is a lot of competition.' – The Arsenal defender was quoted in press.

There are also lot of speculation regarding his future at the Emirates, with reports from Spain and Italy suggesting that Barcelona and AC Milan are closely monitoring the Belgium international. It is believed that Arsene Wenger might consider selling him if an appropriate offer comes in as the Frenchman looks to rebuild his defence in the summer. But it must be added that Wenger has dismissed such speculations and has stated that he still considers Vermaelen as an important part of the squad.
