There were rumors of the Cleveland Browns' curiosity about Ryan Mallett all offseason, but it was obvious that when anything was going to happen, it'd be nearer to the draft. And this Mallett-to-Browns story won't disappear completely. Asked Lombardi abt it straight up yest. He laughed. If it happens, do not think till April Mike Lombardi's interest in Mallett is well-documented, and if the Browns are able to deal from the sixth overall pick, they had probably have the draft cash to produce a move ahead Mallett. A third-round pick appears to seem sensible, although the Pats are likely pushing for a second-rounder. It's a difficult keep reading Mallett from what he's found the final two preseasons and limited mop-up responsibility. He's an enormous arm, but little consistency have been shown by him, frequently releasing missiles headed for the bleachers. Can Lombardi covet that arm enough to create him take a chance? The Chiefs paid a for Matt Cassel, and everybody saw how that exercised. And Cassel was coming off an 11-win season. A second for Mallett will be a lot.
