McAuley will be out of contract in summer 2014, while Long's current deal runs out at the same time although there is a complex 12-month clause which is reliant on certain criteria being met.
Speaking about the Republic of Ireland striker, Clarke said: "As far as I know, Shane's advisors have spoken to Richard Garlick (Albion's sporting and technical director) about possibly a new contract.
"Sometimes the lone striker role can be a hard role. It is one some strikers don't like but he has shown this year that he relishes the challenge of playing up there on his own.
Even if he was to extend his contract by just 12 months he would be halfway towards his 36th birthday by the time it runs its course.
"There are ongoing talks over a contract. Albion are always a club that tend to run on shorter contracts which means you will have more dialogue with players and agents about extending contracts."
"He has got his chance late in the Premier League and has been one of the most consistent performers for Albion this season."
