Gareth Bale-style training camps on Premier league agenda - The Sun

Cardiff-born Bale was spotted by Southampton at the age of eight and until he was 15 travelled regularly to train at the Saints' satellite centre in Bath.

Now plans are being drafted which would allow similar satellites to be set up, in theory paving the way for a club like Manchester United to have an official presence in somewhere like Cornwall.

The Premier League Talent Identification Working Group say gifted youngsters should have access to the best coaching and facilities from as early an age as possible.

One idea is to identify a handful of such regions and then allow clubs with Category One status to compete to be the Academy which runs the satellite centre there.

Southampton's centre at Bath is the last survivor of the early days of structured youth development when clubs such as Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday, plus the FA, had reg-ional offshoots.

But the power lies with the Premier League clubs who are likely to vote at their summer meeting on a range of extra rules to work alongside the Elite Player Performance Plan.

The Pompey Supporters' Trust secured a £1.45million loan from the city council on Wednesday. Administrators PKF now want to sell the ground to PST for £3m.

In a recent pre- season game between St George Illawarra and South Sydney Rabbitohs, cameras were put into corner flags to benefit TV viewers and aid officials.

THE David Haye camp have hit back at claims by Vitali Klitschko that they turned down a fight with him last September.

Klitschko said: "We sent him all the contracts, and he only had to sign them. Unfortunately, he refused. So, he missed the boat."

But, as far as the Hayemaker (below) is concerned, it was WBC heavyweight champion Klitschko who backed out and chose to fight Manuel Charr instead.

Klitschko was reacting after a fan poll organised by the Vzglyad newspaper in his native Ukraine showed 53.1 per cent wanted him to get it on with Haye, who supported the campaign.

Another 26.5 per cent preferred a rematch between Haye and Vitali's brother Wladimir, who holds the other four belts.
