2013 NBA Playoffs: Golden State Warriors and Fans Come Back To Where It Started

This indicates such a long time ago. The renowned No. 17 was moments from being enshrined forever, increased to the rafters to participate the people of the past. Wilt Chamberlain. John Barry. Nate Thurmond. These were moments from welcoming a fresh member with their exclusive club. And then it simply happened. Golden State Warriors operator Joe Lacob took the microphone and began to handle the fanbase that had gathered to enjoy in the last triumph of Chris Mullin. Boos rained down from the audience, years of frustration finally boiling to the purpose of marring a particular night. Lacob, inaudible within the jeers, only stood there, unsure of what to do. Paradoxically enough, it was Barry, once known for his bold perspective and prickly character, who found the rescue (or attemptedto, anyway), grabbing the mic and approaching the crowd: aShow some respect,a he explained. aGive this person the respect he deserves.a It had been all for naught. Most of the talk ofA agoing in the best directiona and apracticing patiencea fell on deaf ears. The 2007 playoff function was a good distraction, but years of ineptitude are not so easily ignored. Throw in a blatant tank-job and the trade of fan-favorite Monta Ellis, and, well, itas a surprise this world hadnat occurred earlier. That wasnat all that long ago. Simply a year taken from that ugly scene, the Warriors now are in the San Antonio Spurs fast approaching, the Denver Nuggets in their rearview mirror and the 2nd round of the 2013 NBA playoffs. Joe Lacob. Marc Jackson. Stephen Curry. Harrison Barnes. Tim Bogut. All significant roles have been played by those men in the 180 this operation has taken. But their efforts pale in comparison to those many responsiblea'the supporters. Yes, these same supporters that booed Lacob. Something must be made clear: Those supporters were not booing Chris Mullin. Their motive was not to tarnish his history. I should know. I was there. Accountability was simply wanted by them. There has been much talk of the mad crowd that packs Oracle Arenaa'affectionately nicknamed aRoaraclea in this playoff runa'each and every game. Finished no one mentions about these fans, but, is they've been there because the beginning. That crowd in yellow cheering their team's success was also there jeering throughout the paper bag age. Through the bad and the good, their support never wavered. The Golden State fanbase was picked apart across the country for his or her display of defiance on that storied night. Those criticizing were wrong to do so. The big picture was missed by them. Those supporters needed what they have now. And while it may appear small and childish to select that particular evening, they were simply making it known that ineptitude would no longer be tolerated, not after one playoff run in 18 years. It would appear that management got the message, annually later. The Warriors management and staff have honored them with the kind of hope that hasnat been observed in years. In turn, the supporters have returned the favor the only way they know how toa'making Oracle roar.
